I went to see 300 on it's opening day Friday. It was pretty awesome!
From the previews it looked crazy, and it was! The overly dramatic effects and film-making were perfect for the film, and never seemed too cheesy, which is what I was afraid was going to happen. Frank Miller is getting pretty damn good at getting the movies based on his comics to look a lot like comics without looking too nutty (like Sin City). In both movies, everything comes to life really well, and I noticed in 300 (as well as in Sin City), almost every frame on screen, I could picture on the page of a comic book. Totally awesome visuals. Still, Sin City...although also a pretty damn good-looking movie...had moments here and there where it was a little too obvious that it was a comic book, and the cheesiness didn't translate quite as well to screen. 300 nailed it. It was just really fun and interesting to watch even if you threw the (not half bad) plot out the window. I've never seen a film with visuals like this. If say...Hero and Troy had an uber-baby, it would be 300. Quite enjoyable. Totally the opposite of the last movie I saw, Zodiac, which was all about thinking and plot and dialogue, and basically void of any cool-looking visuals and special effects XD
Highly recommended!
p.s.
the soundtrack was kinda cool too~ Note to self: download it.
