Colbert won the bridge-naming contest...holy shit XD
For those of you not in the loop, Hungary's new m0 hid (hid means bridge) was holding an online poll as to who this bridge should be named after. #1 was some Hungarian historical figure...until Colbert called upon his viewers to go to the site and vote for his name. Well, apparently everybody watching did exactly so...and multiple times too. He won the contest with more votes than there are people in Hungary! A re-vote was called under suspicion of shady voting methods...and Stephen Colbert won again!
The other night on his show, the actual embassador from Hungary to the US came on the show with actual official papers to make the bridge-naming complete and concrete...I could hardly believe it. He had 2 stipulations though...Colbert had to be fluent in Hungarian (he spoke a few words and the embassador said "alright, close enough"), and he had to be dead... It's hard to say what's real and what's a joke here. I mean, if he was dead, would it matter if he was fluent in Hungarian? Is that the actual law? The ambassador said they could "find a way to settle that one way or another" but I don't know if he was joking about killing him, joking about bending the rules for him, or being serious about bending the rules for him.
In any case, I somehow doubt the Hungarian government is going to let it go through. He wasn't on the ballot, and the votes were from American's, not Hungarians. But could you imagine if they did? Stephen Colbert would go down in Hungarian History (he's already going down in American history after the ever-famous speech at the White House's Correspondents' Dinner) Colbert will one day rule the world. I find it hilarious and fantastic. I thought so before, but now even more so: Colbert should run for president ^_^
