MAN, THE HOLIDAY SEASON HAS BEEN INTENSE. It's 2016, though, so isn't that exciting? I have a whole bunch of messages in my inbox and a lot of comments to reply to (INCLUDING PEOPLE WHO I HAVE TO GET TO WHO ADDED ME TO SEE MY SUBS--I'M SORRY I'M TAKING SO LONG!), so I'll try to get through those tonight after I finish all the work I have to do. BUT ( Read more... )

WHAT TO DO WITH NNK DEAD LINKS - TWO casterap January 3 2016, 20:26:49 UTC
STEP 3
Assuming you have PM the NNK mod account and got no answer in any of your lj inbox folders, and assuming you have PMed all the mods/maintainers and got not answer in any of your lj inbox folders, do Step 3.

This involves recalling which mods of NNK have email addresses listed in their lj profile. Email them according to the method outlined in Step 2(i) to (ix).

Step 3 is the last resort. The email addresses listed on their profiles may not be active. If the email bounces back to you, assume that none of the mods are around anymore and chances of getting new links ever on NNK are so slim as to be neglibible

If the email you sent does not bounce back to you, brace yourself that it may take several months (my experience proved that this can take any time from 4 months to 1 year) for them to get back to you by email. This is because the email addy on their profile is one of their spare/fandom/hobby/not regularly checked ones.

If you performed step 3 and do not get any answer after 1 year, then it is safe to assume the com is dead and none of the mods are around anymore. in this case, it is best to resign yourself that it is impossible to get any dead file from this comm anymore because they don't allow any re-ups by non-mods in any way.

NOTES

When you encounter any comm with dead links, you should differentiate between the mod accounts and the personal LJs of the mods/maintainers.

In the case of NNK, the official NNk mod accounts are nnk_mod and nnkmod

To learn the Lj names of all mods of any comm, go to the profile page of the comm and scroll down until you see the word "administrators" on the lefthand side. Once you found that section, click the words "owner", "maintainers", "moderators" to see the Lj names of those people. After that, it's on you to look at their lj profiles to when they were last on lj, if there are email addresses for you to write to etc.

do not email the livejournal address you see on any profile pages, look for non-livejournal email addresses to email. if the mod/maintainer's personal lj profile has more than 1 email addy listed, try all of them so long as they are not the lj email addy.

DISCLAIMER
Everything in Steps 1-3 is the way I do things when I encounter dead links in any comm. It is also how I gauge if a comm is dead and how I determine whether to give up on ever having a dead file.
