THE ARTIST WINS!!

I am so happy to see this movie win Best Picture, I truly thought it was amongst the best I saw in 2011 (or for that year).
I also thought Hugo was good....that is until my sister kept on saying that it was better than The Artist. I do think Hugo is very good and I put it on par with The Artist, I cannot say it is better; I cannot say either is better than another, their stories are similar, yet different. My sister says there are better visuals in Hugo than The Artist; yes I admit she is right, but that is not a fault of The Artist. You cannot rate a movie using older film making techniques with a movie that is shot using modern styles (not to mention in 3D). Visuals is not everything to a movie (but my sister thinks The Tourist is a good movie because of its visuals). I am glad that Martin Scorsese made a good movie like Hugo and I wish he had made this type movie long ago instead of The Departed. In the end I just was tired of hearing my sister beat-up on The Artist, because she thinks Hugo is superior in 'her opinion'. Of course she is going to like a more visual movie like Hugo when she is a visual person. She is also going to like Hugo more because it actually has sound and sound dialogue; while my sister may watch older movies, I am the one that actually has to sit down with her and show her a silent movie (like The Lodger: The Story of the London Fog, yet Hitchcock is her favourite director), but otherwise she never if rarely watches a silent.

oscars, hugo, the artist
