Beautiful Night Creatures

I was standing outside about 30 minutes ago, when an owl flew right by me.

Guess he was good luck, because I sold one of the two motorcycle helmets we've been trying to get rid of LOL.

He was BIG, too. Bigger than one of my cats, and an dark ashey grey. For some reason, I thought he was a Canadian Goose. I suppose it's because they would sometimes swoop in low around here at the parks and things. I find it kind of funny and ironic, one of my LJ friends had a post showing off an owl calender. (you know who you are ^_~) I had a peek not too long before my sighting and thought about how lovely they are.

I love birds of prey, so this sighting was very special for me. The only other time I've been lucky enough to spot an owl was at my parents house, about 4, or maybe even 5 years ago.

The only other time I've seen a bird of prey in Raleigh was one day at the Capitol building. An exceptionally large brown raptor of unknown species was chasing a sqirrel through a tree. The little grey rodent was giving him quite a workout, too. I stood and watched for about five minutes, until the bird gave up and took off.
