Short Story

We had to write a short story in English as our final assignment with a minimum of 500 words. This story is based on Memoirs of a Fallen Blossom by AjinMegam, one of my idol in the world of fanfiction.

This story is (somewhat) fanfiction since it contains character's name (translated into Chinese ping yum) from Card Capture Sakura and Haou Airen. I do not own any of these characters.

This story is delicated to Crystal.

Title: Captured
Beta Reader: jзℓℓо
Rated: T (M?)
Words: 1, 545 (3 times the minimum!)
Genre: Romance/Angst
Warning: Dark, Twisted, Psychological, Horror

Darkness...

That was the only thing she saw when she woke up. It was the only thing she ever saw in the past days of her capture. She was surrounded by it with only a candle glowing in the middle of the white floor, enclosed by four walls that seemed to shrink every time she woke up from her slumber.

Ying Fa felt so naked, all her weapons were gone, even her hidden ones. Were her team mates going to rescue her? Did they care that she was gone? She didn't know; she had lost track of time completely and her mind became unfocused. She wanted to get out of this prison; to wake up from this horrible nightmare.

She saw no one but a maid who delivered her food and replaced her candle when became she weak from her yelling and poundings.

The last thing she remembered, before her capturer had knocked her out cold, was a pair of emotionless charcoal eyes.

The girl looked around senselessly. She knew there was no escape; she felt so limited. Her cheeks were covered in endless tears; her bangs clinging to her pale, oval shaped face.

"Get me out of here!" the raven-haired girl pound against the steel door for the umpteenth time. It was useless, she knew, but she didn't care. Perhaps the insanity has finally gotten inside her head. She would do anything, anything just to get out.

Anything...

The metal on the candle caught her eyes. Without a second thought, she pulled the lighted candle away from the metal plate.

"I want to... get out of here!" She sobbed loudly.

She allowed the pointed object to pierce through her skin.

She saw the same charcoal eyes again, but instead of the emotionless cold he always seemed to wear, she saw anger.

Apparently, he didn't approve of how she had reacted back there.

His warm hands traced the lines she had made on her body, trailed his finger from her wrist to her shoulder. His touch was unbelievably gentle; who knew that even killers had these kinds of hands? From the close contact, she could feel his body giving off heat, an indication that he was indeed human, but his mind was a completely different matter.

He had changed completely since his childhood days; his demeanour had taken a 180 degree turn since then. If she were to compare the two, they would be polar opposites. But the way he was touching her skin right now, she would think she had travelled back in time. Surely, she must be dreaming; in reality, he was nothing like that at all.

He was a tyrant after all. She was part of the rebel group.

She remembered how he had taken her away from the church because he didn't approve of her marriage to Hei Long. She was furious at him when she woke up from her unconsciousness. Not only did he kidnap her from her own wedding, but because he had broken her heart more than once when they were young. Just when she had the chance to forget her painful past, he came back and stole her away.

A part of her wants to stay by his side. When he had managed to steal heart away was unknown to her. Perhaps it was because of the crush she had on him when they were merely five years old. A crush that seemed to have never disappeared even when he had become the ruler of the nation. It wasn't until Hei Long admitted his feelings for her during their high school years did she realize that Xiao Lang would never return her feelings. But even though she had developed her relationship with Hei Long for seven years, she realized she could never give her heart to him… For the last twenty years, her love for Xiao Lang had never dissipated.

Another had said she should escape from this place, though there was no use of escaping; she knew it was fruitless to try. He had placed an irremovable tracer on her body so that she could not escape from him. If she even tried, an agonizing pain would spread out from the tracer and attack her body. She knew the pain; it was one the things she hoped to never experience, ever again.

"I told you, you can not run away from me," he cooed, "See what happens when you do that?" His hold tightened slightly, "Ying Fa..."

Ying Fa's head turned up slightly, looking up at his face. Her eyes were slightly closed due to the unbearable pain she had just experienced. She saw his eyes on her collarbone, "Why do you still have that?" To anyone else, it was a simple question, but she wasn't just anyone else.

"Why?" He asked again.

Ying Fa could feel his hands grasping the necklace that Hei Long had given to her during their first date together. It didn't matter whether she answered his question; he had ended her freedom the moment she was captured.

He stood up and went behind her to unclasp the chain.

Her partners had come for her after all; but her motivation to escape had diminished completely. Was it strange? As much as she wanted to break away from from this place, she knew she couldn't bring herself to leave. Within the two months she had spent with him, he had already taken over her. Every night, after of her imprisonment in that enclosed room, he would hug her gently as, if she was made of glass, whispering poisoned words in her ears. 'The only one you will ever love is me. The only one you will ever care for is me. The only one you will ever think about is me.' Ying Fa was like a bird, whose wings had been chopped off, unable to fly free towards the opened sky even if her cage was unlocked.

She would never be free.

"Ying Fa!" Hei Long yelled angrily. "Give Ying Fa back to me, back to her family!"

From a distance, Ying Fa could see Xiao Lang's lips curve to form a smirk. "You wish her to be back to your side? Ying Fa, you can come out now." He called.

In the dead silence, footsteps echoed loudly in the stadium, Ying Fa walked up beside Xiao Lang, indicating that her place was equal with his. Her body shook nervously; her eyes could only look downward. She couldn't look at them: her friends, her lover. 'Former lover', she corrected mentally. The person in front of her was too pure; he shouldn't have come here! He only reminded her how tainted she was, of the lies she kept from him. Even now, she couldn't admit it to him.

Hei Long stepped towards her. Ying Fa's head flung at the noise, her eyes widened in fear, and stepped back, "Please don't come any closer!" At the strange reaction, Hei Long fists tightened, 'Why is she acting like this? It‘s because of him. He did this!' His mind became unfocused; without thinking, he punched, with all his might, Xiao Lang’s face, only to be kicked back hard on the stomach.

He looked up to look into the face of his beloved, Ying Fa, whose face cowered in fear of him. Why? He couldn't understand why she was behaving like this. In only two months, Xiao Lang had changed her to this. This evil deed was truly unforgivable.

He charged up to Xiao Lang again, gun in hand; he took aim for the heart. A blur of raven-coloured hair made him hesitant.

"Stop!" Ying Fa's arm spread out protectively over Xiao Lang. He had been torn from his lover and his goal to kill the murderer of his parents. 'Why?' he thought angrily. 'Of all people, why did he choose to take away the people I cherish the most?'

"Too slow," Xiao Lang said coldly, and a gunshot was heard.
