I finally, finally, finally got my paintings framed and they look fabulous!!!
The watercolour is my Grandad's painting. A long time ago, my grandmother asked me to pick out one of his paintings that would become mine after she died. She had this painting over her bed and it was very different from anything else my grandad had painted. I told her I liked that one. She was so touched because it was a painting she found in one of his sketchbooks after he died - like a gift he'd left her. She had it framed and it always lived over her bed. And it was always "Karen's painting". I finally brought it back with me last summer (Gramma died in 2005, just after we moved to the UK) but couldn't take the frame with me so I had to get it re-framed here.
It was difficult to get a proper picture of it because of the glare. I'll try again next time we have a sunny day and there is good natural light in the dining room!
The other painting is an oil and was painted by my Great Grandfather, my grandad's father. I think it's fitting that they're both boats. When I brought this one back in 2007, I happily discarded the hideous frame it was in but it's taken me this long to frame it.
