とにかく大変なことばかり!Finally calming down a bit

The trip to the Embassy was brutal. Even by car, it took 2.5 hours each way. There was no parking, so Ryu's father ended up driving in circles after dropping us off. The Japanese staff outside were cold and unhelpful - obviously on some power trip. Ryu wondered if they were really Japanese. Once inside, things moved relatively quick, which we were grateful for because the room was extremely hot with no ventilation.

There was no feeding/baby changing room, so I ended up sharing the handicapped bathroom with another woman to change our babies on the floor and feed them. I'd had the foresight to bring formula and a changing pad, so I let her borrow it while I fed Reo, then changed him and left.

I don't expect all places to accommodate babies. Parents also need to be prepared. However, it makes no sense to not have a baby room when it's mandatory to bring our child when reporting a birth and we can't easily leave and re-enter. Or, at least put it on the site to come prepared with a bottle and changing materials.

I'm in a bit of a no-win situation this month. For the past month and a half, Reo hasn't been drinking bust or bottle well. To keep him from getting dehydrated, I've been offering smaller portions every half hour. He won't drink more than 23-40ml at a time. The doctor won't check him unless he starts dropping weight. But he won't drop weight if I feed him every hour. But if I don't feed him smaller amounts every hour, he only drinks about 300ml a day, and will become dehydrated…

It's great Reo's health care is free the first year, but what good is it if the doctor won't actually do anything?

At the end of last month I received a work bonus! It was a welcomed surprise, as my child-care leave pay doesn't start until next month. I was asked to swing by and bring Reo, but I'm nervous as I heard from a co-worker several people had tested positive for COVID.

Also, the vanity in me wants to drop a kilo and repair my hair and skin before showing my face at work again.

We've been going on small walks on the weekends until I can exercise again. It isn't enough for weight loss, but has been excellent for my mental health.

Japan hasn't opened borders yet but they raised the daily limit of students, residents and workers allowed to enter from 7,000 to 10,000 daily and there has been more backlash from businesses suffering without tourism. It will all be decided at the upcoming election and whoever wins. I'm nervous. Many older people seem to be in favor of closed borders (no surprise there), and the elderly make up around 40% of the population and always have time to vote..

I'm forcing Ryu to vote, since I can't.

My parents have everything ready to come. Just waiting on airports. We've been video-calling daily so that Reo gets used to their voices. We always talk a bit and then they sing him to sleep for his nap.

Goodness, I miss my parents. How many years has it been now?
