Music That Sings to Soothe the Soul
There's something about church songs that make me feel at ease. Even though I'm not a believer, even though I go to temples more often than churches, and even though I've known for a long time that I might as well declare myself an atheist (and I did! in jr.high!)...there's something about a religious song that makes me feel calm. It could just be the nostalgia associated with that time when I did believe, when I did have faith, and when I would pray several times a day. It could just be that I miss that time of naivety, that I miss the promise that everything will be OK as long as I pray and believe.
Granted, I used to pray for silly things all the time, not sure if all kids were as selfish as I was, but I do remember occasions when I prayed for someone else, when I truly wished that they would get a break. And I don't remember if such prayers were ever heard, but it's not as if I remember many of my current prayers being answered either, incense or no incense.
...And I just miss feeling comforted.
