Number one from Feb. 14th, 1987 for the next 4 weeks.
Listening to the lyrics...makes me feel at home. Like how it is right now. Makes more sense to me than it ever did when my mom listened to it.

I ran into a movie called Jacob's Ladder...? Something about a Vietnam Vet fighting...paranoia? Ghosts of war? I got the feeling it was a PTSD thing.
The lyrics are pretty funny though: "she was running from a fat man selling salvation with his hand" and I guess there might be some post-war err...mentality in it (I'm too lazy to research this, terrible, I know) but mostly I read the
lyrics as anti-religion:
Now he's trying to save me / Well I'm doing the best that I can
Just another fallen angel / Trying to get through the night
[...]
Hey Mister, I'm not in a hurry / And I don't want to be like you
And all I want from tomorrow / is to get it better than today
The rhyme is pretty bad, the rhythm is poor but their chorus is kinda catchy in a ...80s kinda way so I guess that's how they made it work? I think the 80s were sort of about making depressing lyrics sound upbeat LOL

And on another note, I've fallen in love with this young vagabond with bushy long hair and a boyish face singing I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU -- THESE FIVE WORDS I SWEAR TO YOU waaaaaaah~~~~~ Given that I've never liked jean jackets or long hair (don't get me started on curly long hair on men...) this means that
Bon Jovi is just that good.
