Summary: Takaki’s made a promise with Yamada. But something goes wrong causing him to be late; can he make it in time?
A/N: YAYYYYY!! NEW FIC!! ahh here’s something that I thought of during my writer’s block… hehe well ... comments are LOVE! criticism and all that stuff are extra loved~ :D
“Ano… Takaki-kun?”
“Hai Yama-chan, nani?” Takaki looked up from the magazine he was reading.
“Ano, there’s this new roller-coaster ride opening at the festival tomorrow…Can you come ride it with me?” the younger boy asked.
“Un! Of course I’ll come with you.”
“Yayyyy~! Arigatou Takaki-kun~” Yamada cheered.
That was the beginning of a promise not yet known to be unfulfilled.

“Oka-san I’m leaving now!”
“Hai Yuya, have fun with Yamada-kun!” Takaki closed the door of his house and locked it. Today, he was going to the festival with Yamada. The day before, Yamada had asked Takaki to ride this new roller-coaster ride with him. Mmm… should I buy something for Yama-chan? Thought Takaki. He had been wondering about that for a while now until he walked past a certain store. Inside, there was a pair of strawberry phone straps. One pink, one blue. Should I get one? Takaki stood there for what only seemed like a few minutes but really half an hour. The store clerk, having noticed that Takaki had been standing there in front of the store for quite some time now came out and asked if the boy was okay. Snapping out of his daze Takaki faced the clerk and told him that he was fine and that he decided that he was going to buy phone straps.

“Takaki-kun sure is late…I wonder if he got lost…” Yamada had been waiting for Takaki for twenty minutes now.
“Hey there cutie” Yamada sighed as he heard that. Sigh….If only Takaki-kun called me that… Yamada felt an arm around his shoulder and looked to see who it was. It was….a stranger???
“Hey there cutie” That same voice.
“Ano… what do you want?” Yamada asked feeling nervous. There was this stranger that popped out of nowhere being all familiar with him and calling him “cutie,” why wouldn’t he feel weird?
“Haha so cute~” the stranger laughed, “wanna hang out with me for a bit?”
“Etto… I’m waiting for someone right now.”
“Well you can come play with me and later we’ll see if he’s here. Oh and I’m Kohei, by the way.”
“No…It’s okay, I’ll just stay here and wait for him.”
“Nahhhh just come with me. What you’re name, girl?” Kohei continued to talk to Yamada.
“Yamada Ryosuke…and, I’m a boy.” WAIT…why did I just tell him my name? Yamada started to get uncomfortable.
“You mean Ryoko, ne? Well, Ryo-chan let’s go! We’re gonna have some fun!” Kohei grabbed Yamada’s arm and started to walk.
“Ie! I’m a boy!” Yamada whined releasing his arm and stared coldly at Kohei. “Where are you taking me? I don’t want to go!”
“No. You’re coming with me whether you like it or not.” Kohei picked Yamada up and started walking.
“IEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIE!!!!! NOOOO!! I DON’T WANNA GO!! PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOOWWWNNNN!!!” Yamada screeched. Kohei stopped walking and pulled his face closer to Yamada.
“Ryo-chan~ you’re gonna stay quiet, okay?” The boy leaned in and kissed Yamada on the lips. Yamada stopped screaming and stared at Kohei. This boy had KISSED him. Not only that, but that was Yamada’s FIRST kiss. Mouuu…. I wanted to save it for Takaki-kun…Tears were falling down the boy’s cheeks.

Crap, I’m late! I hope Yama-chan isn’t lonely or crying. Takaki was running with all his might over to the park where he and Yamada were supposed to meet. When he got there, there was no one present. Something’s wrong… Yama-chan always waits for me, no matter how long I take... Takaki quickly flipped out his phone and dialed the missing boy’s number. The phone rang. Please Yama-chan… Please be safe…
“Moshi moshi?” He picked up! Thank goodness, that means he’s safe.
“Ah! Yama-chan! Where are you? I’m sorry I’m late, I saw something that was interesting and I just had to buy it.” Takaki, feeling relieved, told the boy.
“Ano, there’s a change in plans today Takaki-kun.” Takaki froze. It wasn’t his Yama-chan, It was someone else. He recognized that voice, it was someone he knew.
“KOHEI! Where’s Yama-chan?! Where did you take him?!” Takaki was furious. It was Kohei, his ex-best friend. Before, they were inseparable, they were the best of friends. That was until Kohei confessed.
~~Flashback~~
“Ano… Takaki-kun? Can I talk to you for a second? Alone?”
“Sure Kohei. What’s up?”
“Ano… well you see… I… for a while… um, well, I… I like you Takaki-kun, please accept my feelings.” Stunned, Takaki stood there staring wide-eyed at Kohei. Why had Kohei, his best friend, confessed to him? “Ano… Ta-”
“GOMEN!” Takaki cut in and bowed, “gomene Kohei! I’m sorry, I can’t accept your feelings. I don’t feel the same way.” The moment he said that, tears formed in Kohei’s eyes.
“Nande Takaki-kun??? Nande?!” Kohei lost control of himself “Why? Why can’t you accept my feelings? Is there someone else?”
“Ie, calm down Kohei. There’s no one that I like.”
“No. There has to be someone, else you would’ve accepted my feelings! Well, whoever it is, I’m going to find out.” Kohei ran away and that was the last time Takaki had seen him…
~~End of Flashback~~
“Eh, moshi moshi? Takaki-kun~ are you still there?” No response. “Well, if you want to know where we are then look up!” Takaki lifted his head from the ground and saw a cliff.
“You see that cliff? Hehe that’s where we are! So if you want your precious Yama-chan back, come~! And come quick too my dear, it’s getting cold.” *Click* Without thinking, Takaki ran to cliff. He was running fast and running hard. The boy wondered why he wasn’t tired, only worried.

“Kohei-kun yamero, let me go! What are you planning on doing to Takaki-kun?” Yamada questioned.
“Urasai! This is between me and Takaki-kun! You’re just bait!” Kohei scowled at Yamada.
“KOHEI!”
“Takaki-kun!!!!!” Yamada cried, seeing his loved one.
“Yama-chan!” Takaki ran towards Yamada but then…
“YAMERO! Stop where you are Takaki-kun!” Kohei screamed. He grabbed the tied-up Yamada and pulled out a knife. “Don’t move Takaki-kun… If you do, I’ll hurt your precious Yama-chan.” Takaki froze where he was and stared wide-eyed at Kohei. “Takaki-kun… you see, I don’t think OUR relationship is going too well right now, so do you think it’ll be fair if you and your Yama-chan’s relationship was well?” Takaki was too shocked to move, even scared to breathe. “Let me tell you this Takaki-kun, I still love you, you know? Remember that I told you that I would find out who your special person was? Do you remember that Takaki-kun?”
Yes…I remember that well….
“Well, now that I’ve found out who it was after searching for two years, I finally feel pretty relieved. It’s time to say goodbye Takaki-kun.” Kohei walked to the very edge of the cliff, dragging Yamada with him.
“Takaki-kun….” Yamada managed to say.
“Yama-chan!” Takaki ran towards the two boys that were close to falling off the cliff.
“Goodbye Takaki-kun…”

“Yama-chan! Yama-chan! Daijoubu?! Oi Yama-chan! Can you hear me?” Takaki was panicking. Everything happened too fast.
“Mmm? Takaki-kun? What happened? Where’s Kohei-kun?” Not fully awake, Yamada rubbed his eyes.
“Ano…. Kohei.. he fell off the cliff…”
“EH?!!! Nande?!?!” Yamada sat up straight now, surprised from the words he just heard.
“Kohei leaned back and was falling off the cliff and he brought you down with him. Due to shock, I guess, you fainted. Luckily, I came and caught Kohei’s hand before you guys disappeared but then Kohei told me to carry you up. Once I got a hold of your hand, Kohei loosened my grip on his hand and he fell.” Takaki looked down, guiltily. He felt that it was all his fault that Kohei fell and…..died.
“Souka…. Gomene Takaki-kun… Today we were supposed to go out and have fun but I got into a little mess and trouble you…”
“Ie… it wasn’t your fault Yama-chan. Hora, let’s go. It’s getting late, I’ll walk you home.” Takaki lifted Yamada up off the ground and they walked away.
On the way to Yamada’s house, they two were silent. Too much had happened for them and they needed the quiet and peace to calm down. Yamada had started to breathe normally again but Takaki had not relaxed at all. Yamada could feel that.
“Takaki-kun?”
No answer.
“Takaki-kun?”
“Ah gomen! What is it Yama-chan?”
“Ano, are you okay?”
Oh no… Yama-chan is worried… No! I mustn’t let him be sad. I have to make sure he doesn’t notice my awkwardness anymore. “Hai daijoubu desu” Takaki tried to put on a smile for Yamada to see but the younger boy could obviously see that Takaki was trying to hide his sadness.
“Takaki-kun, you know… Even though Kohei’s gone now, you still have me. And I’ll always be here for you.” Yamada looked up and smiled at the one he loved. Before Takaki could smile back, Yamada reached up and planted a kiss on Takaki’s lips. The younger one pulled back and said, “I love you Takaki-kun.”
“I love you too Yama-chan…” Takaki pulled out the strawberry phone straps that he had bought and gave one to Yamada. "this was why i was late." he added.
"Eh???? THIS" Yamada pointed to the phone straps, "was why you were late?"
