Wataru lay in bed beside Keisuke, gazing quietly at his sleeping lover that he knew would not leave his side. It was larger than either of their beds and at present, its location was the safest place for both of them. The sommelier didn’t like it anymore than the bounty hunter, but at least they wouldn’t be found too easily within the walls.
It had been three weeks since they first officially started together. They had known each other for nearly seven months now and it had been far past time for them to start something… deeper.
It had been eight weeks since Wataru had revealed himself as the fighter Kiva to Nago. Nago saw and accepted this, having watched at Kivat and Tatsulot wrestled over their bath time after time. If things were any different it was because of this new understanding between the warriors.
Seven weeks ago, Taiga had returned to Wataru’s life. His half brother had returned to claim his throne before him as King of the Checkmate Four - Wataru’s enemies, though his fangire side seemed to tug at him. He also came to claim Mio as his Queen - Mio, whom the young fandriri loved and cared for. It came as a shock to find that Mio was Queen.
Six weeks ago had been a difficult week. All hell broke loose as Taiga revealed himself as Saga - a Rider that easily rivaled Emperor Kiva. There had also been a brief battle between the two, causing damage to both Riders. The sommelier ended up with a few easily covered bruises and a cracked rib.
It was also the week when Kiva - the other half of Wataru - decided to play a nasty trick on Nago, seducing him and making him feel weak. This caused a side of the Ixa Rider to come out that neither fully expected - his Wolfen side. Because of this, both young men vowed to help keep the other under control.
Five weeks was the start of a true hell. It was revealed to Wataru that he too was a King, the mark having appeared after a night with Keisuke. The young fandriri realized that was why he was drawn to Mio, as well as why Bishop had taken an interest in him. Both of them had started to teach Wataru of his ancestry. Wataru and Mio couldn’t be left alone, as the sommelier thought, because he wanted to cause no trouble for Taiga. So Nago started to learn of Wataru’s heritage as well.
However, it wasn’t too long before Taiga found out about Wataru. And from Bishop none the less. The full fangire was less than pleased, to say the least. He believed his own half-brother had betrayed him, taking his Queen and his throne from him. As it was the fandriri had not fully awakened the King’s power yet, though all he needed to do now was change and use his power against those who would betray their kind.
Taiga sought Wataru out, demanding to know why he was King, questioning why he had the mark. Bishop came out of seemingly nowhere and told the story of the creation of the Bloody Rose and of the past Queen’s affair with the human Kurenai Otoya. In his birth, an accident happened which caused there to be a second King for the succession. This meant that the half brothers - friends since childhood no less - would become enemies.
It was just moments after the story was told that Taiga had made his first move. He started to attack Wataru. The first King changed to Saga and proceeded to wound his half brother, who had refused to take up the mantle of Kiva. It seemed to the sommelier that the wounds he had inflicted were half-hearted. They didn’t do so much that he could kill, but the damage was at least to the point where Wataru passed out from head wounds and blood loss. The last image he saw was Rising Ixa kneeling over him to protect him.
The next week was when Wataru finally woke up. He found himself in a strange place, in a strange and elegant bed. The sheets that covered him, as well as the floor around where he lay, were covered in brilliant red rose petals. At the side of this bed he found two men and a young boy - no older than his teens by the looks of it.
“Wataru, to keep you from harm at this time we must ask you to live here in Doran,” the main keeper spoke.
“How… How do you know my name?” the young man questioned, mind still fuzzy from the blows the week before.
“Ne ne! We knew Otoya before you were born!” the boy grinned, “He and your mother put us in here since we were the last of our kinds!”
“Last… of your kinds?” Wataru sat up, only to cringe in pain.
“Lay back down,” the lead man spoke, placing a couple of pillows under the sommelier’s torso, “Yes, last of our kinds. Ramon is the last of the Merman race. Riki is the last of the Franken race.”
“And you, sir?”
The man straightened slightly. The boy - the one known as Ramon - answered this one. “Jiro is the last of the Wolfen race.”
The Kiva warrior laid his head back on the pillow, closing his eyes some. “No… no he’s not.”
“He’s not? Ne ne! What do you mean?!”
“Where’s… Where’s Keisuke?” Wataru groaned, his head pounding with a dull headache. It would get the best of him soon, and Kiva wouldn’t be happy if his host couldn’t stay up long enough.
“What does your companion have to do with this?” Jiro tried to understand.
“He’s part Wolfen… Now where is he? I need to see him.”
Jiro’s eyes had become somewhat wider that they had been just moments before. It was apparent that the man was in shock as his fellows went and retrieved Nago from the hall. He had been waiting impatiently as he quickly went over to the wounded fighter’s bedside.
The rest of that week Wataru was fussed over by Nago. Jiro and Nago did spend some time together, learning about each other - as it turned out that the full-blooded Wolfen was the current Ixa’s true father. Riki and Ramon mainly helped around where needed.
Then three weeks ago the confessions came out into the air for the first time. While Nago and Wataru had known, they had never actually told each other their true feelings of attraction, let alone love. It was this attraction and this assistance through love that allowed the sommelier to pull the sword of King from the wall.
Fast forward to the present and the two young men were laying in the bed that Wataru had awoken in those weeks ago. They were comfortable and safe for the moment. The Kiva fighter didn’t want to leave his bed day, if not for the fact that he knew he would have to eventually leave the castle that day to go get his things from his home. He would lock it down and make sure that Tatsulot and Kivat came with him to the castle. He was not safe there anymore and wouldn’t be until Taiga… No, though they were to be mortal enemies now, Wataru could never bring himself to actually kill his half brother.
At that moment, Nago chose to stir and awaken Wataru from his thoughts. He reached up and touched his lover’s face gently. He didn’t like it that the redhead was constantly thinking about what he had to go through. Not only did it hurt him mentally, but it got him hurt.
“Wataru-kun, just for today, don’t think about him. I’m still your teacher on things,” the Ixa fighter uttered quietly.
“Keisuke, I have to go out later and risk being sensed by him. There’s nothing I can do but think about Taiga-kun,” the sommelier replied.
“Then keep in mind that I’ll be with you. I’m not leaving your side, even when you’re finally King.”
Wataru smiled softly. “I’ll remember that.”
