cateris's prompts of bed's spot helps too, even tough I had have this in my head before I see the prompt. Un-beta'd & I couldn't come up with better tittle +__+
Toshiya suppressed his initial instinctive ‘I’m home’ shouting when he entered their silent apartment. Quietly he closed and locked the door behind him. He simply dropped his luggage, equally quiet, at the living room on his way, almost tiptoeing, to the bedroom.
The door was slightly a jar and he pushed it wider to peer inside. That there he was, his man, lying on the bed appeared to be sleeping. He was lying on the left side of the bed, Toshiya’s side of the bed, instead of his usual right spot.
“Kaoru, are you awake?” He whispered because if Kaoru was sleeping, he didn’t want to wake him up. He got no respond.
He sneaked in and sat on the edge of the bed next to his lover. Kaoru was indeed asleep and he wore this tired expression on his face. The bassist sighed and felt a bit relief after finally seeing him. He was worried sick.
When he left for Nagano, Kaoru was more or less fine even though he had a little cold. But in a few days, Kaoru’s voice became hoarser and raspier. He was about to fly back to Tokyo but Kaoru was insisting than he would be fine that he had went to the doctor and took the medicines and Toshiya should stay longer since it was the first time after a long time when all of his family was gathering up at Nagano. And after that, Kaoru stopped answering his call. Then a text message from Kaoru came in, telling that he couldn’t answer the phone because he lost his voice but apart from that he was fine so Toshiya didn’t need to rush back to Tokyo. Fine his ass! He flew back to Tokyo.
He tentatively touched Kaoru’s cheek and forehead; they were still shimmering with fever. It seemed that the worst had passed when he wasn’t here. He felt guilty even tough it was the guitarist who persisted him staying at Nagano. And now that he looked closer, the right side of the bad, Kaoru’s usual spot, was almost untouched. It was barely crumbled. The shet was still the same shet he,they, last slept on before he went to Nagano. He sighed and caressed the high boned cheek; he should’ve never listened to Kaoru the first place. Stupid, proud Kaoru. Instinctively, still in his sleep, that stupid, proud Kaoru leant to the big hand cupping his cheek. A smile crept up to Toshiya’s concerned face.
Eventually, Kaoru stirred up. He blinked sleepily and went still when he realized that it was Toshiya he was seeing. Kaoru just stared up him, unsure if it was real or not because Toshiya should be at Nagano and this could be some tricks his fevered brain had been pulling...
“Toshiya...?”
His voice, more like a whisper, was so rough and little, that even with their close proximity Toshiya was hardly heard it clearly, and it was apparent how hard Kaoru was pushing the word out of his throat, which made the younger’s heart clenched. Toshiya moved his thumb over the older’s lips preventing him for saying anything more.
“Sorry for waking you up.” He smiled when the dry lips under his thumb kissed it back silently. “I didn’t mean to.”
Kaoru smiled back and shrugged a bit, silently answered that it was okay.
Toshiya leant forward to kiss him but Kaoru quickly covered his mouth and nose and half of Toshiya’s hand that was still cupping his cheek and shook his head. No, he didn’t want Toshiya to catch his cold.
The younger could only be touched by such a simple gesture and kiss him on the other cheek instead. “And I should’ve never listen to your ‘I’m fine’ bullshit.” He added while motioning with his head on which side of the bed Kaoru was now lying.
Kaoru, understood very much what was his lover implying, averted his eyes shyly. His pale cheek tinted with embaracement.
Toshiya chuckled. “I feel like to eat. How about soup for you? How’s that sounds?”
Kaoru smiled and nodded.
“You want to wait here or at the living room?”
Kaoru signaled outside of their bedroom.
“Okay, grab some blanket with you there.” And when Toshiya was about to stand up and let his hand off Kaoru’s cheek he had been holding, Kaoru stopped him by holding that hand faintly. “What is it?” He returned his attention to his sick lover.
Kaoru, with a questioning look, mouthed the word shower and pointed to the bathroom.
“Nah, I’ll prepare your soup first then I’ll hit the shower. I think of some beef curry for me, too. I can shower while waiting it to be cooked.” He smiled. “Now, Come on.”
-----------
About an hour or so later, Kaoru still comfortably curled on the couch, the blanket around his feet. He had finished his soup, it warmed his stomach, and he was waiting Toshiya to join him with his own meal. A steaming mint tea Toshiya made for him was waiting on the coffee table.
Toshiya, freshly showered, was serving the beef curry, adorned with cuts of carrot and potato, with steamy fragrant rice. Then he shouted, “Kaoru, do you want the curry too?” And a split second later he added, “Ah, don’t answer. I’m going there.”
Hearing that, Kaoru smiled amusedly and when Toshiya shown up from the kitchen and asked him, “So? Beef curry?” that he answered with a nod, that smile still lingered there. The soup did great job of bringing back some of his appetites. Oh well, Toshiya’s presence too, he honestly admitted.
Toshiya came back with two plates and gave the one with smaller portion to Kaoru. He seated on the floor in front of Kaoru with his back touching Kaoru’s blanket-covered knee. They enjoyed the meal with Toshiya telling Kaoru about his visit back home.
“And oh, I almost forget. Look what I find in our closet.” He reached to his jean’s pocket taking out something and showed it to his quizzical lover. “Your fanboy mask.” He widely grinned.
The mask was part of Kaoru’s Child Prey costume with the kanji ‘Matsumoto’ written on it. Kaoru voicelessly laughed, put aside his curry, take it from his lover’s hand, and put it on. Toshiya laughed with him too.
That night, Kaoru slept soundly in Toshiya's warm embrace, his face buried on Toshiya's broad chest, and a content smile lingered on his lips under the 'fanboy' mask.
