......woke up. don't feel well. don't know what happened. don't know how i got here.

in a nutshell, i'm really confused.

aaaaaaaaand i'm pretty sure i'm on strong drugs of some sort because i'm going to sleep again...

i'm so getting answers when i wake up again.

Asuma slightly sighed as he picked up a chair in the corner of the room, bringing it closer to Kurenai's bed. He sat down, suddenly feeling the weight of his long absence, Shizune's words at the café not helping.

He looked at Kurenai in silence for a long moment, before he picked up her hand, finding it looking so small within his own scarred and thinned out hand. Leaning forward as he rested his elbows against the mattress of the bed, he brought the genjutsu's expert's hand to his cheek, feeling her warmth despite the slight coldness of her body. Get a grip, you idiot. She's alive at least

"Kurenai....I....." He cleared his throat, hating the fact that he couldn't keep his voice steady. He looked up at her face, seemingly peaceful in sleep. Asuma closed his eyes, stroking Kurenai's hand before kissing her palm.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you Kurenai. I....was taken prisoner on my last mission and...." he whispered softly, knowing that no reasons were good enough to make-up for his absence. He shook his head slightly, trying to push away the gruesome details of his captivity, not wanting to share them with her. At least not now.

"I.....I want you to know.....while I was there...the only thing....the only thought that kept me going all that time....it was the thought of you. It was the...need....the will to see you again...that gave me the strength to escape."

Asuma pursued his lips, half believing he had been able to say what he had hold back for so long. Somehow, it felt like a tons of brick had been lifted from his shoulders. He opened his eyes slowly, a small smile on his lips.

"I know it’s not going to be easy for you to forgive me…..and……I’m not sure you’re ever going to return my feelings....but....I’m glad I got to tell you mine face to face…..even if you didn’t really hear me...." he finished, looking back up at Kurenai’s sleeping face.

Himself exhausted by the escape and the run back to the village, Asuma put down his head on the mattress, hoping he would be the first person Kurenai would see when she would wake up.
