With Naruto and I teaming up against Akatsuki, our chances would be better. However, despite the renewed energy, I knew it was foolish to charge in on pure adrenaline. We'd have to go off the plan of working the two against one another with the contrast of their technique and style.
I quickly filled Naruto in on a few of the things to watch out for--especially Kisame's chakra-eating sword--and also told him that he shouldn't waste his energy chasing either one of them. He was their goal, so no matter what, eventually they would come for him. This we could also work to our advantage, by forcing them both to focus on his capture and meeting their attacks in one spot was a better way of canceling their jutsus and making them expend their chakras. We would make them come after us, working to tire them out enough for us to finish them off.
I wasn't entirely sure how long Naruto could hold or control that chakra of his, but the two things I hear most about Naruto from his teachers and friends is that he's loud and full of stamina. And if he keeps his word half as well as he boasts, he won't allow himself to go down any time soon. Strange as it is and feels, for once I may have to be worrying more about myself in this fight.
Keeping ourselves close together worked in forcing both foes to come at us. ...At first. Another scenario that I knew could have eventually come was that they would decide to face us one at a time, hoping to either separate or tire us out. Either way, tiring them or two-on-one gave us a slight better advantage. And indeed, when they realized what we were up to with cancelling their attacks, they stopped to decide who would face us first.
Jan ken po. Why do people always seem to decide things like this with paper, rock, scissors? Kisame lost with scissors against stone (which I have a theory may have something to do with weapon vs origin), and Deidra ended up being our opponent.
It didn't take too long to discover Deidara's special ability, or that freaky hand of his. Apparently, he can chew up just about anything with a mouth that's located in the palm of his hand. I found this out when it proceeded to make lunch out of a kunai I threw at him, and not too long after it spat back out another sculpture-bomb. Needless to say, we tried to make a point not to "feed" him any other material.
Deidara was playing it smart and keeping just out of Naruto's range. This was fine with me, but apparently not with Naruto. I supposed I should have known the destructive power and malice of the Kyuubi chakra would not stand for idly sitting by waiting for the enemy to come to you. Naruto was off charging at Deidara soon enough, and I had to work to keep up.
It was inevitable however, that with that kind of impatience and my injuries, we'd slip up and fall away from each other. It happened so fast and unexpected. We had Deidara on the run when suddenly he turned and charged at us, managing to weave just past Naruto's clawed swing and drop something between us--it didn't help that he took a good slice from my side with a kunai of his own as he ran on.
Another explosion blew Naruto and I farther apart. We'd been just close enough to the lake that that's where I got sent, and once again I had to use what little chakra I had to keep myself on the surface--going below could mean more bad news if Kisame managed to pin me there. ...Speaking of Kisame, where was...?
A shadow in the water directly beneath me caught the corner of my eye, and I looked down to see Kisame standing directly below me, like a twisted reflection. Before I could even react, his hands shot up and the water around me surged, throwing me completely off-balance. I wasn't even given the chance to fall however, as I soon found myself encased in a large sphere of water pulsing with his chakra. I'd been caught.
Naruto shouted out my name and came running in our direction. I tried to get him to stop, but as soon as he ran out onto the water, he met the same fate as me by what was either the original or another water clone of the real Kisame.
-----
That was it. It was over. We'd both been caught by Kisame's water prison. Hinata would never forgive me.
Deidara and Kisame then came to the next logical conclusion: Kill me, knock out Naruto, and carry on with their schemes. The water I was trapped in suddenly tripled in weight and pressure, it felt like a boulder was slowly rolling the air and life out of me. I could hear Naruto calling for me again, but there was nothing either of us could do except hope for a miracle.
I stubbornly refused to die easily for them, thinking about everything and everyone that would be waiting for me back home if I came back a failure. I held onto that breath of air as long as I could, flexing and fighting back against the increasing density of the liquid, but... soon... I...
I remember not being able to hold onto the breath any longer, exhaling it after an especially fierce increase of pressure, and then my throat and lungs immediately burning as I took in water. Trying to cough it out but only getting more water. The world getting darker and then...
Suddenly the jutsu was gone, and someone was hitting my back to help force out the water that I was coughing up. Hacking and coughing, I turned to see who was holding me. ...Kei...?
Remembering the situation, I scanned the area again and wondered where the giant frog came from. Shaking my head, I composed myself and looked again with a more alert mind.
Sitting in the middle of the lake was a giant frog summoning, atop of which, stood Jiraiya-sama himself. Shouting from the shoreline caught my attention and I looked over to see Naruto, looking normal again, but somehow still with enough energy to be arguing with the sannin. I was concerned about him being by himself until I saw the former Kazekage of Sand there, Godaime-sama herself. With such outstanding talent and power there such as themselves, it was little wonder the two Akatsuki took for a quick departure soon after.
Saved. We'd held out long enough to be saved. Looking at Naruto still communing with his sensei so lively made me both relieved and jealous. I was glad he was safe, but it felt a little unfair for him to still have so much energy left. As for me, with several lacerations, burns, and depleted stamina, I was perfectly fine with letting myself get some much needed rest.
I woke up a couple times to give information to Jiraiya-sama, assure Kei that I was going to be fine so long as we didn't run into any other such company, and to find out we were heading back home. I slept most of the way.
When I woke up this morning, I was back in Konoha and not surprisingly, in the hospital. My chakra levels felt fine now, but my other injuries may take a little longer to fix. I'll have to wait until later I suppose to find out how the festival planning has been going. Until then, I'll take advantage of this opportunity to just relax and--wait a minute. My roommate looks familiar...
Naruto?!

OOC: FINISHED!!! Promised K-chan I'd wrap this up by Thursday night. ...Um, okay, so technically it's Friday morning right now and I'm no doubt going to wake up late tomorrow morning and be late for work, but...! All for the RP!
Again, I fudged on abilities; this time Deidara's. If anyone's got problems/questions/etc, just let me know and I'll be glad to do what I can!
