Sometimes when he sees her, he's starstruck. She is so lively, and then there's him - not quite knowing what to do with his long limbs and just sort of standing there quietly, marveling at how it's possible for someone to be this cute. One day, she finally says hello (wide eyed, honey in her voice), and he's not only starstruck, but the sun and the moon and all the planets have got him too.

She's rumored to be the next "it" girl (or at least, quite close). He's always thought that these types of girls are dangerous: heartbreakers, not that he really has any conclusive evidence of that. Between seeing her around music shows and sort-of-maybe "monitoring" her videos (much to his members' amusement), he doesn't know when he decided that he'd be more than willing to have his heart broken by her.

It's not that her Korean is that bad, it's just that some days it's comforting to talk to someone her age in her mother language. So when her friends tease her about spending an awful lot of time with a certain Kwon Soonyoung, who just so happens to be fluent in Japanese and quite the dancing machine (a plus in her book), she simply smiles, saying that it's nice to have a piece of home. (Also, it's just nice to be around him in general, but she won't admit that quite yet.)

we're stronger when we're not alone
First stop is Tainan, then Shenzhen, and then Anshan. The trip consists of Minghao jumping around excitedly, Tzuyu rolling her eyes at the boys' antics, and poor Junhui grudgingly giving the rest of them piggy-back rides because he lost a bet (but we all know he actually likes doting on the younger two). It's very rare that they get this long of a vacation to visit all their hometowns, let alone take their best friends along, so they make the best of it - gorging themselves on night market snacks, dancing with the grandmas in the park, and leaving all their worries behind.

Nayeon is not supposed to have time to keep up with yet another million member boy group, but here she is with seemingly all the time in the world, catching up on all their shows and performances when she's supposed to be catching up on practice. It is her manager that catches her in the act of streaming old 17TV videos of specifically Jisoo - er, Joshua - (her manager just raises an eyebrow and gives her a sly wink, and she wants to dig herself into a hole). She's only seen Jisoo a few times in person here and there, and realistically she shouldn't really notice him since it's always his other members pushing to the front and loudly greeting her, but she does.

All their friends tout them as the "charismatic couple" or some over-the-top description like that, and perhaps it's true that they have their moments of greatness on stage, but Seungcheol likes it when it's just them dressed in sweats while sitting in her living room and eating Chinese take-out. Sometimes he would show her his newest mixtape and she might toss him her latest magazine spread, but most of the time they just talk about stuff like dreams and what they're made of and why people even try to do things that are seemingly impossible. "Because you never know until you try, and it could be worth everything," Seungcheol says (he doesn't tell her that he's talking about them, and how - despite all that they've risked - it has, in fact, been worth everything).

Everyone and their mother knows that the general public ships these two together - Chan and Chaeryeong, two dancing prodigies that busted their way into the limelight on a competition show, determination burning in their eyes and passion coursing through their limbs. On stage, they’re on fire, but backstage - well, it’s just Chan and Chaeryeong, two kids who find themselves sitting next to each other in the waiting room with one seat separating them. It’s not that they’re unfamiliar with each other; it’s just that neither of them can bring themselves to look the other in the eye when their worlds have collided so abruptly in the span of one TV season (next week, they’ll have to go up against each other in the finals, but for now, they sit in silence, timid smiles settling on their lips).
