It’s usual for Yamada Ryosuke to sit in the library alone. He spent most of his time reading books, doing his homework there if there’s any assigned, or watching the other students interacting on the field with their own club activities after the school ends from there. No, precisely he was watching his tall crush. Nakajima Yuto, a member of swimming club.
He’s the center of the attention in class, cheerful, friendly, and always made those around him laughing. The contrary of him. A guy with perfect personalities which made Yamada fall for him.
He was peacefully sitting on one of the free chairs, on his usual table when a loud voice interrupted his daydream.
“Hey, Yamada!”
Turning to his right, Okamoto and Morimoto from the football club was standing outside the library window. He was secretly watching the two figures interlacing their hand below the window which they thought is not seen by him.
“We’re going to submit the list of students who are going to participate the summer field trip. How about you?”
“Um... where are we going to go?”
“The sea.” Morimoto answered him. He thought for awhile. Well, he couldn’t swim and he couldn’t stand the summer heat, so why he should bother himself to come?
“I think I’ll pass.”
“Alright then.” Okamoto waved his hand.
Along the conversation between the two guys who were walking away, he didn’t fail to hear the Okamoto guy faintly said that he’s pretty but too bad he’s gloomy and that made the Morimoto guy dragged him away to the gym storage room. He shrugged, didn’t want to think further about what the couple seems will do.
“Eh... Yamada-chan, you’re not going to participate?”
Yamada continued to daydream for awhile before he was taken aback by the familiar voice. Turning to his right side, his crush was there, standing outside the library window, crossing his arms to rest on the window wall smiling cheekily.
“I can’t swim.” His heart was beating fast and his mind was wondering since when Yuto had stood up in there.
“He? You don’t need to worry about that, just leave it to me! I’ll teach you.” Yuto flashed his usual warm smile. Yamada was thinking hard when suddenly Yuto gripped on his wrist to raise his hand.
“Hey! Yamada said that he’s coming with us to the sea!”
‘Huh?’
“I know you guys’re there! Come out Keito, Ryutaro!”
Yamada was staring blankly at the Okamoto and Morimoto pair coming out from the storage room shouting ‘okay’ with an annoyed looking to Yuto. He was left stunned registering Yuto’s words into his mind before realization struck him.
‘Wait a minute...!?’
He totally ignored the fact that Yuto was so bold and the said guy didn’t even bother to read the situation in front his eyes.

Yamada was folding up his legs, resting his chin on his knees sitting on the sand. A towel hanging on his head to cover him from the sun. The heat was killing him slowly. ‘So hot...’ he complained in his mind. ‘It’s his fault forcing me to come here...’
“Yamada-chan!” he turned back to see excited Yuto waving his hand eagerly at him. “Nakajima-kun, please don’t call me that, it’s too long for a nickname and it doesn’t ring nice. We’re not that close too aren’t we...” Yamada has started to blabbered up nonsense things. Yuto stared at him for a while, perhaps realising that’s how he tried to communicate and reacting. Yamada lowered his head down feeling nervous because of Yuto’s intense stare. ‘Why is he staring at me like that?’
“Yama-chan then!” he bent down a little startling Yamada, Yuto grabbed his wrist to pull him up from the sand and dragged him to the seashore.
“What are you doing!?” Yamada yelled. He was actually scared with the sea. “Starting our special training!” Yuto answered casually. “Wait! I came here just to have a look at the scenery!”
“What are you talking about!?” obviously ignoring his yells Yuto had pushed him to the water after their feet came in touch with the water.
“What the hell Nakajima!”
“It’s such a shame to not swim! Today the weather is nice isn’t it?” Yuto pointed his finger to the now wet Yamada.
“Beside you look cute with that strawberry pattern pants!” Yuto chuckled and Yamada had swiftly turn away to hide his reddened cheeks.
‘I can’t misunderstand his kindness!’ Yamada thought firmly.
After awhile of Yuto coaxing and teasing him to start their training, Yamada reluctantly agreed and nervously moving his feet splashing the water around and Yuto was holding both of his hand. “You’re planning something weird, don’t you?” Yamada asked suspiciously.
“Ha? Of course not~”
“Lie!” Yamada put up an unreadable face. “Paying attention to someone like me is not fun at all isn’t it?”
“It’s fun.”
Yamada looked up and he couldn’t help but to to feel happy. He did not realise Yuto was holding his laugh seeing his twinkling eyes.
“To can be close with each other like this is fun, it’s impossible to not be fun right?”
Yamada bitted his lips. This is the first time someone ever said that to him. ‘I think he just made me fall for him more.’ Yuto bent his face closer that made him flutter. He unconsciously loosen up his grip on Yuto’s hand, he slipped, resulting himself to plunged under water.
“AAH!” he gasped as he tried to stand up. Yuto quickly walked to his side and helped him up.
“Next time hold on to me tighter!” Yuto laughed hard holding his stomach. Yamada just listened to the sound of Yuto’s laughing, Yuto’s voice resounded in his ears.
‘It feels like I’m being swallowed and engulfed with his bright smile... what should I do...’ Yamada pouted at Yuto. He was falling so easily.

It was night already, all of the students were already back in their lodging and now chatting freely with each other except for Yamada, sitting on the corner of the room alone.
‘It turns out like this after all, I’m all alone, awkward, and gloomy.’ He sighed at his own behaviour and stood up to go to the toilet. ‘At least I can kill the time by walking around for awhile.’
Yuto who noticed that Yamada went out from the room stood up and followed him immediately. “Yama-chan, where are you going?” He asked cheerfully as always. Yamada pouted and decided to ignore him, he kept walking away with Yuto trailing behind him. “Hey, are you not afraid of seeing a ghost alone at night time like this?”
“It’s not possible, Nakajima-kun.”
“But I heard from some sources this lodging is haunted.”
“Yeah, very funny Nakajima-kun.”
Yuto stopped abruptly and it made Yamada stop on his track to turned back at him. Yuto was pointing at his back terrified and Yamada’s face has turned pale in a second. Not to mention the corridor they’re in now was dark and quiet. “Yama-chan, there’s a big shadow hovering behind you.”
“GYAAA!” Yamada screamed and unconsciously hugged Yuto tightly. He felt a hand patting his head gently and Yuto softly sniggered. “I was joking Yama-chan, I didn’t know that you’re a scaredy cat.” Yamada blushed hard and shoved him away immediately.
“Baka! I’m going to sleep!” Yamada felt dizzy and his mind was whirling with the suddent event that has just occurred. His heart was tingling.
“Hey, don’t be mad.” Yuto went to apologize but he was still chuckling nevertheless.
‘He’s not sorry at all isn’t he...’
“Be careful!” Yamada could only nodded at that.
‘That Nakajima, was he aware of my feeling already?’

The next day Yuto act like nothing happened between them yesterday. Somehow this one sided feeling hurted Yamada a little. Yamada casted his eyes onto the sand. His buried feet beneath the soft sand somehow was also burying and worsening his currently complicated feeling.
“Okay, let’s continue with our training!” Yuto beamed happily while doing some warm up. Instead of following him to warm up, Yamada walked away from him. “Hey, where are you going?” Yuto ran to catch up. ‘I don’t know what kind of face should I make when I see him... I don’t undestand him...’ Yamada felt Yuto’s hand softly gripped at his shoulder.
“Gotcha.” Yamada turned back and as usual Yuto’s smiling at him. ‘This guy... why is he shining so bright in my eyes?’
“Nakajima-kun... I think I’m not feeling well today, I will pass for today.”
“Eh? If you said so... be careful on your way back.”

Yamada woke up from his slumber when he heard the noises of people talking. He decided to sleep after coming back from the beach because he doesn’t have any particular activity to do, he rubbed his eyes to cast away his sleepiness. It was then he heard some of the boys were talking with Yuto, it’s about him.
“I know it Yuto, the teacher asked your help to accompany him because you invited him to here right?”
“All of the related matters about beach is the duties of the swimming club.” Yuto stated confidently.
“Don’t act cool like that! He is used to being alone, it’s okay to left him you know.” The next thing he heard is the noise of their laughter.
‘So that’s what happened...’ Yamada felt his heart squeezed. He left his room and went out to head towards the beach.
Yamada didn’t know that Yuto was angry after that, Yuto had strictly warned them to not mocked Yamada anymore or they will have to deal with him.

Yamada was sitting on the smooth large rock beside the sea. He was hiding at the quiet side of the beach, the wind was blowing breeze and it helped him to feel ease. He wanted to be alone for the time being. ‘I was so stupid... I almost misunderstand his kindness.’
Tears unconsciously forming around his eyes. Suddenly everything about Yuto becomes so painful for him.
“Yama-chan what are you doing in here?” Yuto’s voice almost made his heart jumped out from his chest. Yamada hurriedly stood up and walked away from Yuto, wanting to get away him.
‘This kid... why he’s always walking away from me?’ a sigh came out from Yuto’s lips.
“Where are you going?” Yuto walked behind him intending to follow him.
“Don’t follow me.”
“It’s the sea over there, it’s dangerous to be alone. Especially you who can’t swim properly.” Yuto warned.
“You’re here to accompany me because the teacher asked you to do so right? Since I knew about it already, you’re free to leave me.” Yamada eyed Yuto to observe him.
“...So you knew about it.”
“...” Yamada felt his heart stinging.
“So what about it? Why are you angry anyway? Did you think that I like you...?” Yamada was utterly shocked. Yuto hit him right on the nail. ‘So he knew it after all...’ but he couldn’t give in to his pride. He supposed to be angry right now. “I-I didn’t think like that!” Yamada tried to deny it.
“Is that so?” Yuto blinked his eyes.
The heavy sound of the water splashed surprised Yamada. Yuto suddenly had jumped into the water.
“I thought that you like me, I actually feel happy too... spending time with you. I’m sorry if I gave you bad memories, I won’t bother you again.” Yuto’s eyes show that he really mean it.
‘He wasn’t just teasing me.’ The thought was softly creeping into Yamada’s mind. He quickly jumped to the sea when Yuto was about to swim away. ‘I can’t stay back doing nothing at all.’
He knew he was drowning but a strong hand pulled him to the surface and kissed him on the lips. Yuto gently traced his palms on his cheeks. ‘What's with this tingling feeling?’
“I was sure that you’re going to jump.” Yuto chuckled. “So now that you have jumped I know you’re not going to let me go. What do you want to say? Tell me everything.” Yuto pulled him to his embrace.
“I... I like you, Nakajima-kun.”
Yuto smiled gently. “Drop the suffix already then, call me Yuto.”
“Y-Yuto-kun...” Yuto laughed at how Yamada was shyly mumbling his name and buried his face in his chest. Well, they still have a lot of time to practice later. The tension between them eased.
“You do realize we're on the water don't you? This time you can't escape from me.” Yuto playfully teased Yamada before closing the gap between them.
They shared another passionate kiss, this time slowly enjoying, expressing their feelings. They gazed at each other eyes and smiled warmly.
Starting now, a brighter and more dazzling summer than the sun is about to start.
