I just read
this article on Slate about the Daily Show's (apparent) hire of Olivia Munn. This article, along with some other comments I've seen, are pretty down on the hire. I can understand it - it does seem that if they went through a huge casting call for a new female anchor, including people from famed comedic institutions such as second city and UCB, there's got to be plenty of funnier women than Munn, who is basically decent on AOTS. I will reserve judgement until I see how she performs on the Daily Show. I do think they could have made a better hire, but at the same time, I think she could be good with the right material. It may depend on how much the Daily Show reporters rely on other writers vs. their own creativity and comedic talents.
