A lot of people don't know about these two programs and since I was once one of them I think it'd be nice to have something close to a "tutorial" for them. :)
Warning: This might get pretty confusing.
Vobsub:
You need this so that softsubs are readable and playable with the video. Meaning if the video file and the subs file have the exact same name (minus the .avi/.mpg(vid.file) and .srt(subfile) at the end) it will play the subs automatically.
GOOD: Goong Ep1.avi + Goong Ep1.srt; this will play together automatically.
BAD: Goong Ep1.avi + Goong - 01.srt; this will only play the raw, no sub, video.
What is the difference between hardsubs and softsubs?
Some people get confused with the terms hardsubs and softsubs. Hardsubs are subs that are already included in the video itself. So, when you play the video the subs are already there for you to make your life easier. Softsubs, however, aren't included in the video. You need to download them separately and you need vobsub to make it show with the video, it can get pretty complicated.
HJSplit:
A program you use to split large files in order to keep it's good quality well... good. You can use it to join files.
How to join files:
First you dowload all the parts of your video. Make sure you save them in the same folder
Here's what the files should pretty much look like:
Now you're ready to open up HJSplit. There are many choices but right now we're focusing on joining files. So press Join.
It'll open up like the image below. Click Input File.
Then choose the .001 file.
If the other split files are in the same folder it'll automatically place the file names in the Output File.
You're practically done by now. It'll show a progress bar and when it reaches 100% the file is completely joined. :D
All you have to do now is go to the folder where you placed your split files in and you'll see your video file ready to be watched!
*You can now delete the split files since you don't need them anymore. But before you delete them make sure the video works first.
