Here comes part 2 of the meme. Since I'm lacking again (*tehe*), a few days in one entry.
Day 11 - Ever tried collaborative writing (such as play-by-post roleplaying)? If so, what do you think of it?
I did try roleplaying once, but after a while I got bored. I didn't like always waiting for the other to answer and I also hated the way the story was headed. So I quit. I'd like writing a book with someone one day (someone who knows me better than anyone else, you know who you are XD) because that person would talk with me about the storyline and every little detail. And it would be awesome!
Day 12 - Imagine you’re behind in your word count goals (even if you’re not) and are going to pull an all-nighter to catch up. Screencap a playlist of inspirational music you would use to get you up to speed.
God, I'm too old for that crap. I can't pull all-nighters anymore though I love writing in the night. Sorry that I can't give you a screenie. I don't have a lot of music on my new computer. Just some OSTs of games like Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed and movies like Thor or PotC. Imagine that yourself =)
Day 13 - Name a male character from your novel. Describe him through the point of view and words of the female character you introduced in question 3 (if they never interact, pick another female character).
Okay, let's talk some more about our very own Greek God. We met him in his parents' restaurant, called the Moráles. The whole evening he was eyefucking with my brother which left Nat a bit... let's call it flustered. Whatever that waiter did to him, Nat quickly became addicted to it. I bet you wanna know how he looks like. I certainly would. Well, he's definitely a sight for sore eyes. Tall, dark and handsome, that's what they always say, right? And he is. All Spanish and shit. Tanned like Nathaniel, who looks so out of place on pictures with the rest of the family. We're all horribly pale for living in the sunny state. So he also has these deep, soft brown eyes he hides behind glasses. Nice, silky looking black hair and believe me, he definitely has some well defined abs hidden unterneath his white waiter shirt. Dreamy, really. A shame he solely focused on Nathaniel.
Well, yesterday I was fascinated by him and his interactions with our, probably queer?, brother. Today I want to hit him until he tells us where Nathaniel is. He was the last person to see him. Nat left a note saying he'll meet with Santiago - oh, I forgot to tell you, right? Yeah, his name is Santiago. Like that stupid cake he served us - but be back in a bit. All evidence like footprints and video surveillance recordnings speak against him. Clemmy thinks he's innocent, but he sure as hell seems way too innocent to be true. We're storming into his parents' place right now, demanding to get our brother and son back. He's not here, but damn! It seems like this place is a treasure trove for hunks. We're definitely living in the wrong state.
Day 14 - Is the sexuality of your characters a large part of your novel’s story? If so, are there characters who deviate from the heterosexual “norm”? In what way?
Well, it's part of their personality, so of course it's important. But their sexuality does not define their storyline. Nate got kidnapped because someone has plans for him. Santiago is the main suspect because there's no evidence in his favour. Robert, the third main character, grew up in a world where he doesn't even know what heterosexual means. He doesn't fall in love with Nate because he likes men, but because he doesn't know anyone else. There is no one else who ever cared enough to risk their lives for him. Sexuality is always important, but no one is where he is stuck right now, because of who he falls in love with.
Day 15 - Do any of your characters have a disability or mental illness? If so, how does that affect their development throughout your story?
Like I said earlier, Nathaniel suffers from several mental illnesses. PTSD, phobias, etc. Being held down by a voice in your head is horrible. It's like a constant battle with yourself. Exhausting, overwhelming, kind of unneccessary. His mind never lets him rest. He's in therapy but also in denial. Santiago lets his mind rest, stops the world from spinning out of control. Once he gets kindapped that safe haven is once again taken from him and suddenly Nate has to fight not only for himself but also for this boy he doesn't know. Nathaniel's growing stronger during his imprisonment, bolder, a tad manipulative. He needs to do what has to be done in order to get them both out of there alive. Nathaniel grows up and finally starts to realize what he wants. His disorders lead him astray a few times and he's nowhere near stable once he finds a way out but he has a vague idea of the life he wants to lead. Robert, I would say, suffers from Stockholm Syndrome. Being locked away literally all your life does that to you. Until Nathaniel shows him what he's missed all his life.
Day 16 - At around the half-way point, it bears mentioning that most of us wrimos have other obligations beside simply hitting that elusive word count. What else do you have going on in your life (work, school, children, neurotic pets, etc.), and just how much are you shafting it to win NaNo?
Not much, thankfully. My niece demands my presence almost every day, but I conditioned myself to get up early in November to write in the mornings and spent some time till the evening with her and my sister. I do have some other things too but I always try to write at least 1k on days I have other plans. And on days I'm completely free I write until my hands fall off XD
Day 17 - In what time period is your novel set? Is it in this world or another?
It's pretty much happening right now. And the world is still the same. Showing and exploring the human heart works best if it's shockingly real.
Day 18 - Who is the antagonist in your novel? What drives their actions?
Robert's father is my villain =) He kidnaps Nathaniel and imprisons him for 18 months. Which is nothing compared to the 12 years Robert was 'held captive'. What drives his actions? Hm, I really don't want to give away his reasons. Sorry. But I can tell you that he likes to wind 'em up and watch 'em go. And yes, I just quoted Will Graham.
Day 19 - Which authors or books have inspired your own writing the most, and why?
Authors like Steve Mosby, Stephen King, Cody McFadyen, Thomas Harris, etc. always set me in the mood to write stuff. But usually it's the story itself that makes me want to write. I love me some good stories - books or fanfics - and in a way all of them inspire me to something. That's what's so fantastic about literature.
Day 20 - If you could meet one fictional character from any book you’ve ever read, who would it be, and why?
Oh God, that's almost impossible to tell. I love so many books, there are so many awesome characters out there. But you just reminded me of my (still going) crush for a character of my favourite book series. It's German and never really made it in America, but I still read all of the books about him and his two friends. The three investigators or in German: Die Drei ???. I'd love to meet my favourite character Peter Shaw (Peter Crenshaw in the english version). Why? Because we share some things but at the same time we're as different as fire and ice. He just seems like a cool guy to hang out with. I bet we'd have tons of fun.
