So I continue to kick around the idea of joining FDNY someday and how best to do it, one way that I just finally found information about seems easy in some sense, but drawn out instead of direct attempts. It appears that to apply to become an FDNY Paramedic is much easier than becoming a firefighter outright, seeing as how you can apply by calling and giving your name, drivers liscense etc etc and NYS Paramedic Cert. and NYC REMAC, that's the only hard part. NYC REMAC consists of taking their challange exam to show competency. They call back when there are openings and you then take the entrance tests associated with it. Starting pay is better than a firefighter and from there on you only need to work 1 to 2 years and receive permanent civil service status. After that you can take the promotion to firefighter exam which I imagine, assuming you pass, you have much better chances of getting promoted than getting a job starting from scratch. As usual this is all stuff I'm kicking around in my head, so feedback from others (Mike I'm sure you've got something to say about this) would be great.
