I know my compulsions; I don't like them, but at least they're familiar.

If you want to live in mediocrity, live in fear... We must all make choices.

- kailangang hindi pabagu-bago ang taya
- kailangang laging doble ang taya

Prophets condemn in hope that God's anger will pierce through the numbness of people - Hescher (sp?)

The present of one is the past of another, and the future of yet another. We are called to live, knowing and showing that the future exists and that each one of us can call it in, if we are willing to redress the balance of the past. - Ivan Illich

The world's love is and always be condidtional. As long as i keep looking for my true self in the world of conditional love, I will remain "hooked" to the world--trying, failing, and trying again.

As I let all of this sink in, I see how the story of the father and his lost sons powerfully affirms that it was not I who chose God, but God who first chose me. This is the great mystery of our faith. We do not choose God, God chooses us.

Now I wonder whether I have sufficiently realized that during all this time God has been trying to find me, to know me, and to love me. The quation is not "How am I to find God?" but "How am I to let myself be found by him?" The question is not "How am I to know God?" but "How am I to let myself be known by God?" And, finally, the question is not "How am I to love God?" but "How am I to let myself be loved by God?" God is looking into the distance for me, trying to find me, and longing to bring me home. In all three parables which Jesus tells in response to the question of why he eats with sinners, he puts the emphasis on God's initiative. God is the shepherd who goes looking for his lost sheep. God is the woman who lights a lamp, sweeps out the house, and searches everywhere for her lost coin until she has found it. God is the father who watches and waits for his children, runs out to meet them, embraces them, pleads with them, begs and urges them to come home.

"In the house of my father there are many places to live," Jesus says. Each child of God has there his or her unique place, all of them places of God. I have to let go of all comparison, all rivalry and competition, and surrender to the Father's love. This requires a leap of faith because I have little experience of non-comparing love and do not know the healing power of such a love.

Would anyone know if the book by Nouwen is available in any bookstore? Sir said he's not lending his book anymore (long story haha). But that's okay because I want my own copy! :D
