non-SXSW shows in Austin next weekend...
For those around Austin who aren't necessarily going to SXSW and might be looking for a good show to go to...
Some friends I grew up with in Wisconsin are going to be in town and playing some shows next weekend, and they're not part of SXSW, so you can get into them w/o a badge.
The band is called Sunspot, and they put on a kick-ass show.
They've got (afaik) 4 shows booked for next weekend, and there may be more. They're doing "dinner" shows at 7:00 Thursday and Friday nights (March 13th and 14th) at Joe's Bar and Grill, which is more or less halfway between Lamar and Guadalupe on 5th. They're also playing at 1:30A Saturday morning (March 15th) at Trophy's on South Congress as part of the GoGirls Music "Invasion of the GoGirls" - a side festival run annually during SXSW. Finally, they've got a 5:00 show on Saturday afternoon (again the 15th) at Bikini's, on I-35 just before St. John's.
They've got some songs off their latest album up on their webpage to listen to. And like I said, they're a great show to watch. Give 'em a try if you've got some time and want to hear some kick-ass live music but don't have a SXSW badge/wristband.
