Bush's skewed priorities: A vignette in the continuing saga...

A letter to the editor in today's NYT makes an excellent point that hadn't occurred to me:To the Editor:

In "Conservatives Are Wary Over President's Selection" (news article, Oct. 4), we learn that the White House swayed the conservative Christian leader James C. Dobson on Harriet E. Miers's nomination, although he was "not at liberty to talk about" some of the information he received about her. Really? Why would he be given information about a court nominee when it is the Senate that confirms her?

Why does President Bush think that Mr. Dobson is entitled to information about Ms. Miers that the rest of us are not? Americans of every religion and no religion at all should be frightened by this.
