man, I fell asleep and I woke up like...what is it, 5 AM? i woke up 2 hours ago, WIDE AWAKE. i fucking hate this.
when i had my blood clot, like most of you know, they put me on an anti-coagulant so i wouldn't get any more clots - or at least, my risk would be severely lowered from what it was - having a blood clot permanently ups your risk for having future ones by like, 25% or something, i forget. when i die, it'll most likely be from a stroke or heart attack or aneurysm or something having to do with a blood clot, just because i'm at such a risk.
i don't care, but just letting you have some backstory.
so they put me on coumadin, which is the fancy name for warfarin, which has been around since the...god, i think maybe as early as the 20s, when it was used on farms. to kill rats. and mice. they'd put it in food set out, the rats and whatnot would eat it, and then they'd OD and bleed out. so by the end i was taking 35 milligrams of rat poison a day, every day.
....yep.
the highest dose i've found that people take, based upon reading forums for people in my situation, was about 7 - 10 milligrams. but those were two specific cases that had to do with heart attacks. dosages for MY issue, a clot leading to infarction, were more in the range of one milligram to a max of maybe three.
i was on THIRTY-FIVE MILLIGRAMS. OF RAT POISON.
shortly after getting higher and higher dosages, i developed two side effects which i think will never go away - in fact, i think they're a result of the warfarin damaging my body. every morning i wake up nauseous, sometimes having to throw up, and once a month i'll have a period of insomnia, lasting anywhere from two days to two weeks. a month or two ago, i only got about 5 hours of sleep over about a week and a half. so i'm hoping this isn't the start of an insomnia period.
anyway. i'm awake. and since i'm going to see type o next week, if i can drag one of you motherfuckers along with me, i thought i'd post the top ten bands i've seen, in order of how many times i've seen them. next entry, i'll post my top ten concerts i've ever been to, and the results will be kinda surprising.
okay.
PALECURVE'S 10 ENTRY LIST OF HOW MANY TIMES HE'S SEEN A PARTICULAR BAND
please note that this does not mean that the top band is my favorite, it's just that i've seen them a lot. in fact, some of the bands on here i hate, but i've just seen them because they opened for another band, and i couldn't avoid it. let's begin:
1. Rasputina - 17 times
2. Type O Negative - 13 times
3. Marilyn Manson - 10 times
4. Stabbing Westward - 7 times
5. Korn - 7 times
6. Staind - 6 times
7. Tool - 6 times
8. VNV Nation - 6 times
9. Depeche Mode - 4 times
10. Nine Inch Nails - 4 times
Staind would be the band that I just COULD NOT AVOID, as they opened for everyone I went to see from fucking Korn to Rob Zombie to Limp Bizkit to Orgy. I could NOT GET AWAY FROM THEM. Before they hit it big with "Outside" or whatever, when they only had "Mudshovel" as a hit, they used to put on a fucking rockin' show - even when Outside hit, they were still hardcore, and then it turned into a best of Staind show and they sucked. Same with Stabbing Westward - they used to be AMAZING back when they'd play the Factory and only 100 people would be there, and then "Save Yourself" hit the radio and then it was 1000 people. Fuck that shit.
I would've loved to see the bottom four more, but they just don't tour enough. Luckily I decided to follow DM around from here to NJ to NY, and NIN played in Philly a shitload of times, and in Jersey.
Rasputina's high amount is obvious - I knew the old Kris/Nana band, and I still know Melora. Whenever they come around I almost always see them here, in Jersey, and in Brooklyn or Manhattan.
In fact, the top three bands have such high amounts of viewings for a reason - they put on fucking good shows, all in different ways. Rasputina is phenomenal live - their recent live CD does NOT capture how good they are, and Melora is so fucking cute on stage I've been in love with her for years, just like Amanda from the Dresden Dolls.
Type O Negative I love because while they don't really put on much of a stage show, they just stand there and play (aside from Peter yelling "KENNY!" and Kenny, the guitarist, running up the middle of the stage and playing like he's high on something that he needs to find me some of right away), but they're unlike every other band out there - they won't play a greatest hits show. Sure, they have sometime, but I love the fact that they almost ALWAYS play Philly for Halloween, and the whole band dresses up, and the fact that one time the ran a poll online as to what songs the fans wanted to hear live - of course, all the popular ones were picked - so Type O went ahead and did the opposite, and played all album tracks and b-sides. THAT is why I love them. When a band's been around for a while, yeah, it's okay to play your hits (EL REZZO, I'M TALKING TO YOU HERE) but your fans WANT TO HEAR THE ALBUM TRACKS. The songs that when we buy your albums, we hear and we like MORE than the singles and hits that the bandwagon fans like. Type O can play Christian Woman, sure - but they also play Kill All The White People and Too Late: Frozen, or they cover Smoke on the Water. That's also another thing - they cover so many random songs, they're great.
And Manson - hate him or not, he puts on the best stage show I've ever seen. Yes, a lot (most) is ripped from Skinny Puppy's theatrics, but their shows aren't as detailed nowadays and it's amazing to just stand back and watch Manson's show. He may not be a musical genius, but he's one hell of a marketing Einstein.
okay.
enough babbling from me. i'll babble more tomorrow about my 10 favorite shows, ever.
bye, kids! someone come to type o with me! leave your home state and drive or take the train to philly and see them with me! you know you want to! fucking assholes!
