Guess there is some truth in advertising. While being more than mad about the lack of change in the gameplay, I decided it might be some fun to try and unlock some of the krypts in the game. So I started playing conquest mode arount 2:00pm on Saturday. I read that it would take around 20 hours to finish it.....but being "consumed" as I was, it only took 13 straight hours or till 4 am Sunday morning. Yes, I think that was probably the second longest gaming stint I have ever endured. The first being about 20 straight hours of Team Fortress back during the Quake 1 days. While I still hate the fighting engine in the new MK games, Conquest mode was pretty addicting. While not the best graphicly and lacking very deep gameplay it was still fun to walk around the different levels and notice all the characters and levels that were put in that classic MK players would appreciate.
Why the hell Boon and associates and Midway can't look at Tekken and understand why it's still so popular I will never understand. I mean MK4 was pretty bad, but at least it still contained the basics of MK. It still took some skill to pull off uppercuts and kicks to knock ppl from the air. Now jumping is worthless in the game and all anyone has to do is breath the right way and you'll get hit in the air. I guess I'm alone in thinking that Ultimate MK 3 was the best Mortal Kombat. While the dial-a-combos were lame..the basic gameplay and juggle combos were still classic MK with just added speed. So sick of ppl saying "They've all sucked since MK2" arrgghh!! MK3 and UMK3 did not suck!! I really enjoyed the run button and the fast gameplay. Run stopped ppl from turtling and kept you thinking fast. Guess the ppl that didn't like MK3 or UMK3 just hated it cause you couldn't turtle anymore. And I'm probably the only one to think MK4 is better than both MK:DA and MKD. IMO they should have stuck with the gameplay formula that made MK good. Till UMK3 they had it right. Keep the basics, make it faster, add a few new features, but don't let the new features change the gameplay formula. Namco has used this formula for 10 years and it has worked great for them. They change Tekken just enough to keep it's fans interested, but don't change the basic gameplay formula that makes it what it is. What Boon and team have done is equivalent to making another Die Hard movie, but leaving out Bruce Willis. What's the point of even making it?!!??
