Seriously enjoying this summer. I've always really loved summer, but there's something in the air or something. I've actually mentioned to a couple people that it's sort of like when you're 15 and on summer break and have zero responsibilities. I still have a job and bills and need to finish my grad school app, but it doesn't feel like it.
[ ^Seamus taking a break downtown last week]
Last week I had what can only be described as a perfect evening. I left work and headed downtown (maybe 2-3 miles) w/Seamus. We sat in a park and I read a bit. Then I sat on a patio and had pizza and beer. Then we rode over the the new Huntington Park and sat on the grass and listened to the Dave Matthews Band concert. If I wasn't feeling so lazy, I probably could have walked up to the gate and seen fairly decently. Columbus ProTip: You can pretty much 'see' any concert @ Huntington Park for free. There were a lot of us loitering about and no one seemed to mind. It was a highly energized show, some long jams on the usuals... and then they closed with Halloween. Which probably only means something if you're a fairly big fan, but was completely unexpected and awesome. Also had a nice ride home, including a police officer telling me to ride past a bunch of cars through traffic.
Spent the past 3 days @
ComFest lounging about in the park, listening to tons of local musicians, and doing other ComFest-y things. I'll probably get around to posting photos today or tomorrow.
I'm off today recovering, and contemplating a quick ride. Those extremely rainy looking clouds are deterring me for the moment.
No big plans this weekend, although I do have a gig on Sunday. Playing in a parade. Not having to march. Making pretty decent cash.
Looking forward to the
Women's Cycling Forum on Wednesday - and not walking in super late this time. Hoping to meet some dope biking ladies and get myself a bit more involved in community stuff.
I also really, really have the urge to start a band/project as an outlet for my more rockin' self. Originally I was thinking bass (because I miss playing bass with people!) but tuba could be seriously fun, too. And I'm like a zillion times better at playing tuba than anything else. Wish I had a keyboard, too.
So, YAY SUMMER. All I want to do is ride my bike and make & listen to music. And sometimes read some radical (or maybe moderate) feminist books & magazines. Every day. It really is like I'm 15. If this is a mid-life crisis (1)it's too early and (2)it's kind of awesome.
P.S. I realize that my infrequent posts have pretty much turned into opportunities to post Seamus photos. I refuse to apologize for this as he's so totally awesome.
