^Pretty much what the subject says.
I saw
>Whip It a couple weeks ago. I was completely stoked. I already love Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page, and Roller Derby. So there was a pretty good chance I was gonna like it.
But OMG - IT'S SO FREAKIN' GREAT!
Then I discovered it was a book first, so I am also telling you to
READ THE BOOK. It's ALSO really freakin' great.
[The book was written by
Shauna Cross. She also did the screenplay.]
It's really about a misfit girl finding her way, and breaking some rules, and discovering herself - a coming of age story for myself + most of my friends.
I'm also officially an Ellen Page fan, enough so that I spent for-freakin'-ever changing my mood theme in homage.
So, WHIP IT: the worst thing about this film is that a lot of people probably won't see it, especially guys. And it's a film that girls need to see. But it's also a film that guys need to see. Because in some ways it's about ANY misfit finding their own path and being themself. (I will refrain from the tangent about how boys/men have not been conditioned to read female characters are relatable to themselves, the way girls/women have with male characters).
SO: Moral of this post: SEE WHIP IT. READ WHIP IT. MAKE YOUR FRIENDS SEE WHIP IT.
