After some nudging by friends who were concerned about my well being, I realize that I ought to post an update. Yes, I'm doing fairly well in light of recent events.
*Dad suffers some mild cases of disorientation (if not borderline dementia) due to steady flow of drugs into his system, but otherwise he's doing well. The scars are healing nicely, he's not suffering any more serious internal pain, and he's even gotten back to using a walker to move around the halls of the hospital. Overall, he's doing very well. Mom is heading back home to shower/rest/check up on the rest of the family, and my sister is present to keep Dad calm until Mom returns. I can't do much from here, but they know I'm watching and giving advice drawn from my recovery periods from my car wreck and other surgeries.
*I start the night shift at Lego tomorrow. I'll be working as a QA tech for new releases, though I know not what they'll specifically ask of me (not that I'd say anything anyway.) From what I understand, I'll be working on stuff here in the US as well as parts of the team over in Denmark so it should be a great learning experience if nothing else. It's only a contract position for about 2 months now, but there's a substantial chance that I'll be kept if things play out correctly.
*I'm playing around with the Lego Universe game, and I'm finding to be quite clever. It's a mix of WoW, Lego games on the consoles, and tons of mini-games for players to toy around with while interacting (or not) with the overarching plot of the Maelstrom threat. My character, OjiiHan (Kansai dialect Japanese for 'uncle'), is in the Venture League. There are four factions you can join with, each offering a style of play and unique gear to acquire. If you're interested in joining up, I'd recommend buying the game directly from Lego's website as they'll throw in a free $10 gift card to cover one month of subscription (and the first month is free, as is express shipping!)
*One nice benefit from the evening shift I've been working towards is the late night running I can get in. No insects, no people, no dogs; just a quite jog around the neighborhood while the night air keeps me cool. I'm working on getting at least 1 mile in per day, especially since I've lost any and all cardio and muscle I had back in my KF days. Once I get some paychecks, I'll look into joining a 24 hour gym.
