Awkward moments

- While attending a new tenant party here at OEH, I'm introduced to some friends-of-friends who happen to also attend Kansai Gaidai. In particular, the young gal sitting next to me, who happens to speak English pretty well. The typical introductory questions arise: where are you from, are you a KG student, how old are you, etc. The last one always gets the vocal "EH?" from the locals, as they rarely see a student my age. Sometimes they inch away from the creepy old man (aka, me), but not this one. She asks me to flex my bicep. Okay... I've been working out, and while I'm not at all ripped, I do have a bit of meat there and it's not flabby. I chuckle as I flex, saying "Yeah, I know. It's not much." Her response? "It's enough. Many Japanese girls like older men, and you have enough muscle. You're a target now." o_0 This time, I did the inching away.

- I spent some time today showing a different friend-of-a-friend the film Iron Man, as the copy I have has Japanese subtitles. He had a bit of difficulty keeping up, mostly to due the speed at which Downy Jr. talks, but he enjoyed it. Afterward we talked about the film, CU Boulder, and other stuff when more visitors arrived. I used this chance to run upstairs to grab a few boxes of tea that zalena gave to Beemer to give to me, and offer them as gifts. This prompted more talk about Colorado and the Celestial Seasonings factory, which made me reminisce a bit, but was it was okay. Then someone had a movie about Colorado they had just rented and wanted to show everyone. Oh how fun! Let's see here... Oh.

Bowling for Columbine.

Yeah, uh, no. I mean, yes, they're absolutely correct, and I'm very proud of them for being able to understand a vast majority of what's going on, but I'm just not in a mental state to see that. I hang for a few minutes, grateful that I'd been drinking in front of them so that I can pull off the Drunken Old Gaijin routine and escape without hurting anyone's feelings. I tell them that they should feel free to ask me any questions about it tomorrow, but I was just too drunk and old to stay up and watch the movie. I'm now safely in my room, buying my ticket home, and biding my time.

No, not exactly my best look, but it's warming up out here quite a bit so some trimming and resculpting had to happen.

wtf?, japan!
