'Do and 'Fu, back to back

I've been trying to increase the amount of exercise I'm getting, including running a mile at least every other day in addition to classes. It's finally paying off; I'm down to 180. Yesterday, though, I felt like I needed more, so I went to both TSD and KF. It felt pretty good.

I got a bit of good natured ribbing for not attending TSD as much, but that's expected. Hey, the whole two martial arts, two majors, and two hubbies thing gets just a tiny bit in the way of spare time, but they don't need to know that.

We proceed with the drills, and I'm finding that I have some difficulty doing the turning motions for the TSD section. It's not like it's any physical limitation or anything; the turning motions are just confusing to me. It's been a while since I've been confused like this, so it was somewhat frustrating, but also humorous.

Following this, we practiced some offensive blocking techniques. Basically, it's getting the power to damage the attacker while defending yourself by maximizing your force in the small area you have to block the attack. This is accomplished, partially, through the torque generated from twisting the wrist outward just as you connect, and in some cases, a twist of the hips. We paired off, one of us with a kicking shield, and practiced on the pads, working on speed, power, and technique. It was nice and tiring.

When KF came around, I was a bit winded, but still good. More often than not, SBN has me doing the warmups, which mean that I'm leading the class and correcting mistakes more than actually getting a workout, which is what I counted on. During this time, I was able to regain my strength and be prepared for combination attacks on the heavy bags for the rest of the class.

Sure, I was wiped out by the end of it all, but it certainly seemed like a viable option for more training. I need to do this from now on.

Oh, and super special thanks to the guys for having an orange already peeled and separated for me when I got home so that I didn't crash. That was ~so~ thoughtful!
