14/02/09 - KF

Things have smoothed out, and I think it may have just been a number of issues acting in tandem to result in what happened. Things are on track now, and the black sash test is back on course.

-whew-

I received an email from SBN a few days ago asking if I could cover for the weapons and KF classes for today. As I've finally turned in all of my study abroad stuff, I actually had the time to do it, so I said "YES PLEASE!!"

Part of my grumpitude stemmed from having yet *another* student start giving me static about how I'm not around anymore so he doesn't need to listen to me. I rarely pull rank, and if I do, it's because of some tradition that must be observed, so I do expect that things change. (Psst. This is why it's called tradition, and they're really reasonable requests, so suck it up.) When I say that I've not been around because of school, he replies with, "uh huh, whatever." When I notice he's wearing a shirt underneath his uniform during test day and ask him to remove it, he doesn't, and I get really miffed. I'm pretty sick of facing guys like this, but I also need to realize that this is a martial art; we get guys like this pretty frequently, and they never last.

Following that, I get some scolding from SBN for not following specific instructions while I was leading the first half of class. He had something planned, and I ate into his time, so it left him crabby. While my first thought is, "Hey, you could have stopped me at any point," I also realize that I'm the one who's ultimately responsible. So, yeah, my turn to suck it up.

Anyway, today went really well. Problem student was in class, but I went proactive and really started working with him on refining his forms and answering his questions during weapons, and gave him the responsibility to train someone else as we have a gaggle of white belts. This seemed to have improved things immensely, as we were even joking together after the class.

SBN showed up after KF was over, and we chatted for a bit, joking about this and that, so things seem pretty smooth there, too.

So, yeah, sorry for the attitude and the scare people. Monkey just went a bit supernova, but things are fine now.

Wootah.
