Title: Make and Mend
Fandom: Final Fantasy XIV
Characters/Pairing: K'pandolu Tohka (PC)
Rating: G
Summary: Taking up the tools of weaver and goldsmith.
Prompt:
31_days, 5 June '16 - make and mend
Notes: Handwaving some use of weaver-type skills in K'pandolu's family (fishing nets? that sort of thing too).
K’pandolu and her sisters were all told to learn to at least learn to patch their own clothes- especially when she kept getting them snagged on branches and torn- and so the needle Guildmaster Rose gives her fits easily into her hand. Her first spool of thread is uneven, but as she falls into rhythm they even out, and her hands guide the thread into cloth, then clothes. The spinning wheel’s thumb accompanies her even when she rises to her feet, new clothes ready for the day and market.
---
The goldsmith’s hammer is different- new, and unfamiliar. K’pandolu works at the metal with caution, hammer sounding out each time- tap tap tap, and she can see how fine a thing this ingot might be, tap tap tap, and there is how well this ring might hold. She brings it to bear on stone and bone as well, smoothing out some of the sides on the grinding wheel before shaping them all together into staves for the thaumaturges. She can feel the power humming in the staves beneath her hands, even as she gathers them up for delivery.
It’s a strange thing, to think that it could be so easy to make something meant to destroy. But she touches her rings- simple copper, for now, and thinks like this, she can build as well.
