... The guest speaker couldn't make it. In the short time I had, I'd mentally prepared a speech. There was a decent number of us, at face value -- it was the specifics that made it shaky. Standing present were the cabinet members of the club, myself, and the student council president. After the lighting, he would take a picture and depart; leaving me and the people obligated to be there. Two members of the general membership showed up, a little late, but still appreciated.
We lit the candles. The wind blew out everyone's but mine. I dedicated the vigil to both the transpeople dead for having been loud, and the living dead too scared to make noise. The president disbanded the vigil before I could say anything else, as I was obviously freezing -- my wardrobe was not extensive, and the winter was cold. I lacked a coat. My candle did not go out. That made me giddy; God was with me, that night. ...
