The (friggin') name game...

Well, not quite so cryptic as it would seem at first. Kumanosuke (Kuma, for short) is my faithful Akita pup. He's by my side pretty much 24/7, so he means a lot to me. Dave and I decided to get a dog for me to care for when I started to get severely depressed and borderline agoraphobic (after finding my spinal surgery was not successful). I learned that my chronic pain was indeed chronic, and was not going to get any better (barring some new future discovery in medical technology). Since it was pretty certain I was destined to be housebound to some degree, Kuma came along to give me companionship, someone to take care of, and something to feel responsible for.
It was, as it turns out, a wonderful idea. Kuma has demonstrated himself to be a very bright boy, and since I'm his Alpha, he follows me night and day with an enthusiasm and devotion that continues to astound me. I've been blessed with many loving people in my life, but there's something about Kuma's absolutely unconditional affection that touches me profoundly. His full time job is to love me, that's it. He does so without ever giving it a second thought, without ever feeling conflicted, without ever evaluating my worthiness, and without ever wondering what he gets out of it. In that sense, he is one of the most noble creatures I've ever met. So that is why I consider myself "Kuma's Human".
