Chapter 14
Donghae wakes up with pain the next day. He lets out a groan when he opens his eyes, he can see one of his arms and legs are bandaged. He makes himself comfortable in bed when Sungmin and Kyuhyun laugh at him. “Yah, you’re a cop. You should handle the pain well.” Kyuhyun says.
“Easy for you to say. You’re not the one who got shot.” Donghae gives Kyuhyun a glare. Sungmin approaches him and pats his head. “How are you feeling. Is it really painful? You want me to call a doctor?”
“I’m okay, hyung.” He says with a guilty smile. Then suddenly his tummy growl makes them laugh again. “I never knew someone can be funny at time like this.” Kyuhyun says laughing. “Stay with him, Kyu. I’m gonna get us breakfast from the cafeteria.”
“How long did I sleep?” Donghae asks and gets out of bed. Seeing Donghae struggle a bit, Kyuhyun quickly helps him. “Hmm… Good amount of it.” Donghae washes his face and sits at the couch. Thank goodness for first class room. “How long am I going to stay here?” He asks again; totally not a fan of hospitals. “A week.” Kyuhyun replies simply .
“A week? I’m gonna be dead by then.” Kyuhyun smirks and slightly smacks his head. “No, you’re not because Sungmin and I will take turns to take care of you.”
“Still… I wish Hyukkie was here so he could take care of me. I would be better in just a second.” Donghae says and laughs at his own sentence. Then he heard a smacking sound. He turns to Kyuhyun with a worried eyes. “What?”
“I didn’t tell him. You want me to tell him about this?” Kyuhyun points at his injured leg and arm.
“No, he’ll be worried. Oh My God! I totally forgot to call him too. Give me your phone.” Donghae demands. Without protesting, Kyuhyun gives his phone to Donghae.
Donghae doesn’t have to wait long for Hyukjae to answer his phone. He smiles happily hearing his lover’s sweet sulking voice.
“Hyung…..”
“Hyukkie.. I miss you.” He says whispering.
“Donghae-shi? But this is Kyu hyung’s number. And you were supposed to call me yesterday. You told me to wait for your call but you didn’t call me back and you didn’t answer my call either. I don’t think you really miss me, Donghae-shi.” Donghae can imagine how cute Hyukjae is right now with his pouting lips.
“I’m sorry. Something came up last night and I kinda misplace my phone. Sorry, okay?” Donghae makes his voice sound sweet as he can. “Let me make it up to you when you get home, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow?” Donghae adds.
“Is that a promise? Really promise this time?”
“I promise. I talk to you later, kay. I have to do something.” He says goodbye to Hyukjae and gives Kyuhyun’s phone back.
“Where is my phone?” He asks Kyuhyun. “In your bag. Next to your bed.”
“Okay. I have to go home today.”
“What? NO!!” That was Sungmin. They both almost jump from their seats. “What do you mean you have to get home? If I have to remind you, mister, you just got shot. See those injured arm and leg??” Sungmin puts down their breakfast a little hard than necessary .
“Hyung, I’m okay. I still can move around. See. My hand and leg is still functioning.” Donghae moves his injured hand and leg; trying hard to hide the pain from crossing his face. “But Hae..”
“Hyung, I don’t want Hyukkie to be worried because of this. Please. I really wanna go home.” Sungmin sighs. He never wins if he has to debate with Donghae. “Fine, I go talk to the doctor.”

Donghae waits in his room while Sungmin talks to his doctor. He didn’t even finish his breakfast and keeps looking at the door. He is anxious to get home and to be in his bed, or his Hyukkie’s bed. Hospitals totally suck. The food is tasteless, the smell is horrible and the bed is so not comfortable.
His door creaks open when Sungmin and the doctor enter his room. He smiles happily expecting the positive result. But the smile fades away when the doctor denies his request. The doctor told him he should stay in the hospital at least one more day before he can be discharged. He argues at first, but then when the doctor tells him he will stay for a week, Donghae immediately shuts his mouth.
Satisfied, the doctor does the check up on Donghae before excusing himself from the room. As soon as the doctor is out of sight, Donghae slumps his back on the bed. “Hyung, did you tell the doctor to say that?” he stares at Sungmin. “I didn’t. And you should listen to what the doctor has said. At least you’re here for three days than for a week.” Sungmin said to him.
Donghae is still mumbling about something that Sungmin can’t completely hear. “Don’t worry about Hyuk. I will pick him up.” Donghae doesn’t want Hyukjae to see him in that condition. But now he is out of ideas on what he should tell his lover.
As for there is nothing more that Donghae can do, all he does all day is text and call Hyukjae. That is the only thing that can make his mind forget about how bored he is feeling right now. He tells him all sweet and cheesy things that he can think of which make Hyukjae giggle over the phone. When Hyukjae asks him about his work, he carefully changes the topic without Hyukjae realizing it.
It was almost evening when his battery went out. Cursing, Donghae tries to switch his phone again but fails. He tossed his phone on the bed and pouts. “Now what should I do?” He sighs and lies back on his bed.

Sungmin leaves Donghae alone for a while so he can have a fresh shower and change to new clothes. He then drives to Donghae’s apartment and gets him few things that he thought he will need during his hospital stay; not forgetting his laptop and PSP.
When he arrives at Donghae’s room, he finds him sleeping. He shakes his head before tucking Donghae under his blanket. While adjusting Donghae’s blanket, he saw Donghae’s phone on the bed and switch off. He smiles amusedly thinking that Donghae probably fall asleep because of the latter was bored. He tries to turn the phone on but when nothing happen, he knows that Donghae’s phone is out of battery.
He searches for Donghae’s charger in his beg and helps Donghae to charge his phone. “You’re sleeping because you’re phone died.” He chuckles quietly. “Seriously, Hae. What are you going to do without me?” He said and clears all things on the table. He makes himself comfortable on the couch and reads random magazines.

Waiting for the day of Hyukjae returning is torturing for Donghae. What make it worse is that he can’t pick his lover up himself. He is alone because Sungmin is picking Hyukjae up.
While he was immersed in playing game, his phone vibrates and a name appears. Donghae looks at the screen; wondering whether if he should answer or not. After few more times of vibrates, he decided to answer the call. “Yoona…..”

Sungmin purposely arrives in Hyukjae’s school so early so the boy won’t have to wait for him. He can see Hyukjae from afar in his group listening to whatever his teacher has to say. He smiles widely when Hyukjae walks to him. “Hyung….” Hyukjae drops all his bags he is carrying and hugs Sungmin. “Did you have fun?” Sungmin asks as he hugs Hyukjae back.
Sungmin helps Hyukjae to get all his things in his car. They both bid goodbye to Siwon and drive off. “Why is Donghae-shi not coming? He’s still busy?” Sungmin sighs. “We will see him after this but first we need to get your things in your room and have you change, okay? Or do you want to take a nap?”
“No. I don’t need a nap. I bought presents. For you, Kyu hyung and..Donghae..”
They arrive home. Hyukjae immediately unpack his things. He separates the gifts he has for his beloved three people and put it in a bag. When he finishes unpacking, he walks to Sungmin who is resting in the living room.
“Hyung, is everything okay? You look tired.” He sits down next to Sungmin. “I’m fine. Are you tired? We can go after you rest.”
“Where are we going?” Hyukjae asks him back.
“To see Donghae.”
“Can we? I mean is it okay to disturb him at work?” Sungmin don’t like the idea of hiding about what happen to Donghae from Hyukjae. He is really against it. And today, Hyukjae will find out about it.
“It’s okay. Come on. Donghae is not working.” Hyukjae follows Sungmin to his car again. The drive this time is quiet. When they reach at the hospital, Hyukjae feels kinda scared. “Hyung, what are we doing in the hospital? Who’s sick?” Sungmin grabs Hyukjae’s hand and takes him inside. They walk to Donghae’s room side by side.
“Hae, Hyukjae is….”
Donghae is in his bed eating. And a girl is with him feeding him food. “Oh, Yoona-shi. When did you arrive? How did you know about Donghae?” Sungmin approaches them while Hyukjae stays at the door.
He is confused. Why they are in the hospital, seeing Donghae in his patient clothe and having Yoona feed him food.
“I just did when I call him this morning. So I got here as soon as I can.” Yoona smiles and talks politely to Sungmin. Sungmin turns around and finds Hyukjae still at the door. “Hyuk, aren’t you coming in?”
Hearing Hyukjae’s name from Sungmin makes Donghae frantically look at the door and see his lover is looking at him all confused. “Hyukkie…” Donghae get out from bed, with a little help from Yoona of course.
He’s limping but manages to walk in front of Hyukjae. He gives his lover a big and tight hug. “I missed you. I’m sorry I couldn’t pick you up from school. The doctor wouldn’t let me out and I kept telling him I’m fine but he didn’t listening to every words I said and I’m stuck here in this boring room. But I really want to gives you surprise and…” Donghae trailed off. None of them gets in Hyukjae’s ears.
“Why are you here? What’s going on?” Hyukjae looks at Sungmin for the answer. Donghae caresses Hyukjae’s cheeks and that makes Hyukjae look at him again. “Hyukkie, don’t be mad. I’m sorry for not telling you anything. I just didn’t want you to be worried. That’s all.” Donghae started as he guides Hyukjae to the couch and sits next to him.
“Am I the only one who didn’t know about what’s been happening?” Hyukjae is now looks at Yoona. Clearly she has her big smile on her face. “We will wait outside.” Sungmin interrupts them and walks out of the room with Yoona.
“Baby. Listen to me first..”
“How come she knows about this and I didn’t?” Hyukjae’s insecurities just leveled up. He doesn’t really like the fact that he is the only one who is totally out of the picture.
“She just found about what happen to me this morning. And I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t want you to be worried about me on your vacation.” Donghae holds on to Hyukjae’s hand firmly.
“But..”
“Baby, I am going to tell. But not like this. It should happen in the different way I mean, in our apartment with only you and me.” Donghae lets out a sigh before continuing. “You remember me and Kyuhyun were all busy before you left, right?” A nod from Hyukjae.
“There was this big drug operation happening in our area and our team had to take them down. And we had planned everything. I thought we would succeed but…clearly we failed. I have to save one of my colleagues. He was almost shot if I didn’t save him in time. And then everything just messed up. Our perfect plan just went down the drain and I ended up here with this.. ermm..bandage.” Donghae shows his bandaged arm and leg.
“Why didn’t you tell me anything? Am I not important to you?” Tears start to linger on Hyukjae’s eyes.
“Baby, you mean the world to me. I just don’t want you to be worried about this matter. I’m going to tell you, really. When everything is over. I really want to tell you about this.” Donghae kisses Hyukjae’s wet eyes coaxing him to stop crying.
“I’m sorry, baby. I’m sorry I made you sad. I didn’t mean to.” Hyukjae take a look at Donghae’s injured arm. “Does it really hurt?”
“Not that much since you’re here with me now. And I bet the pain will vanish if I see a smile on your face.” Hyukjae lips stretch a little gives Donghae his weak smile. Donghae kisses him lovingly. “The doctor said I can be discharged tomorrow.”
“Is it really okay for you to go home this early? I think you should stay here for a while.”
“My injuries are nothing. I still can move freely. Don’t worry. So you’re not angry at me anymore?” Donghae gives Hyukjae his secret weapon (puppy eyes). “Just a little bit. Because you hide this from me.” Hyukjae pouts. “And because you let Yoona come here and feed you..” That last sentence came out as a mumble.
“What is it baby? I can’t here you.” Donghae leans in closer so he can hear what Hyukjae is saying. “Nothing. I’m telling you I’m still a little bit angry about this.” he avoids Donghae’s kiss this time and do his merong aegyo to Donghae.
The two lovers are now laughing together when Donghae’s room door swings open. “So I guess everything is okay, now?” Sungmin and Yoona walks closer. “Everything is perfect.” Says Donghae.
They continue talking with each other and accompany Donghae in the hospital. After a while of talking, Hyukjae volunteers himself to buy drinks for all of them. He walks to the cafeteria to look for some snacks and drinks. He thought he was alone but he is not. Not far behind him, Yoona is following him so close.
“Hey.” Yoona greets him. “How was your trip?”
“Fine, I guess.” Hyukjae answer her unwillingly. “I bet you have so much fun until you forgot about Donghae.” Yoona says Hyukjae looks back at her. What is she talking about? She doesn’t know anything.
“I didn’t forget about him.”
“You did. Why didn’t you know about what happen to Hae? Why weren’t you by his side when he was hurt?”
“He didn’t tell me anything.” Hyukjae looks away.
“But he told me about it. I guess that is what makes you and me different. Seems like he trust me more...” Hyukjae keeps silent after that.
“Did you know he was the only who badly injured because of their case? He was the only one with two bullets in his body. I bet it must have to do something with you. He must have been distracted during his duty that couldn’t let him concentrate. You call yourself his lover but you caused him this much? And have you ever think of this? Maybe Hae didn’t tell you anything because he knows you’re the one who make him messed up the entire operation.” With that, Yoona walks away; leaving Hyukjae alone with his thoughts.
All the things that Yoona told him keep playing on his mind. Maybe it is his fault. May be Donghae got hurt because of him. They did fight before because of a stupid matter. Hyukjae refused to answer Donghae’s call. Maybe that’s why.
May be she is right.
Then Hyukjae’s phone rings. It was Donghae. Asking where he is since it almost an hour since he left the room.
Before entering Donghae’s room, Hyukjae tries to make his smile as real as he can. He is hesitant to enter but when his phone rings again, he has to enter the room since they can hear his ringtone. He walks in try to be bubbly and happy but none of his act is promising to Donghae and Sungmin.
He denied all of their claims that says something is bothering him. He says probably he is just tired. Donghae grabs Hyukjae’s wrist and make the boy sits on his lap. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Hyukjae gives him another sweet smile before carefully getting up from Donghae’s lap. He doesn’t want to hurt Donghae more. “Hmm...The day after tomorrow, I’m going to start my work at Siwon’s uncle’s café.” He says but not looking at Sungmin and Donghae.
“Siwon will be there too. And he starts working at the same time as me. His uncle told us we need to have a good rest tomorrow before we start working. I hope you don’t mind.” Hyukjae looks at Donghae hoping that he will let him work.
“What about me? Who’s going to take care of me? I need my baby by my side.” Donghae says childishly which make Hyukjae giggle hearing that. “Donghae-shi is a big boy. He can take care of himself, beside you told me yourself that you’re not seriously injured. I’ll try to talk to his uncle and let me go home early.”
Donghae crosses his arm in front of his chest, pretending that he is sulking. “Yah!! Who’s the adult in your relationship? Hae, stop acting like a kid. Hyukjae promised Siwon’s uncle to start working after he come back from his trip. He has to keep his words or Siwon’s uncle will think that Hyukjae is not a good employee and doesn’t take the job seriously. I can take care of you. I promise we will visit him at work at anytime you want it.”
“Whenever I want, Hyung? That is a promise.” Donghae is now grinning to himself. “Why did I feel like I’m starting to regret saying that.”
“Okay. Hyung, I’m sorry but you can go home now. Hyukjae will stay here with me. Right baby?” Donghae hold Hyukjae’s body so close to him. He misses his lover so much and he wants some time alone with Hyukjae.
“Getting rid of me now, huh? Okay. I’m leaving. If there’s anything you need...Just call me, okay. Hyuk, hyung is going home. You’re going to stay here?”
“Of course he’s going to stay here with me. He’s not going anywhere.” Donghae scoots away a little so Sungmin can’t take Hyukjae. “I’m staying here, hyung. I see you tomorrow. Thank you hyung.”

Donghae keeps on hugging and cuddling with Hyukaje on the couch. “I missed you.” He whispers close to Hyukjae’s ear. “That tickles.” Hyukjae said while giggling. He rests his head on Donghae’s chest listening to Donghae’s fast beats. “I love you Donghae-shi.” He said so suddenly.
Donghae is shocked at first since Hyukjae has never said those words first. It’s always him who is the one to say those three words. “I love you too. So much. I rather die than not being with you, baby.” Donghae kisses Hyukjae’s temple and inhale Hyukjae’s scent. He really missed him. It was only for two days for him and Hyukjae being apart but he feel like he was dying.
Hyukjae suddenly feel sad when he hear those words coming out of Donghae’s mouth.
“Donghae-shi, can you promise me one thing?” Donghae hums waiting for Hyukjae to continue. “If anything happen to me… Or if we’re not destined to be together... Please be happy for me.”
Donghae pushes Hyukjae’s body a little so he can have a clear view of Hyukjae’s face. “What are you talking about? We will be together. I’m not letting you go. Or are you somehow planning to leave me?” Sadness clearly can be seen on Donghae’s face. It scares him. The thought of not having Hyukjae with him.
“I said ‘If’, Donghae-shi. We never know what happen in the future.” Hyukjae kiss Donghae’s cheek. “It’s just… Just promise me,okay?”
“No, I’m not going to promise you that. I don’t have to. Because you will be with me. Nothing will happen to us, Hyukkie.” Donghae pushes Hyukjae backward so now Hyukjae is lying on the couch while Donghae get on top of him.
“ Donghae-shi?” Donghae keep caressing Hyukjae’s cheeks with the back of his fingers. “I love you Hyukkie. So much. You don’t know how much I love you, baby.” Donghae lean is and capture Hyukjae’s lips. Giving him all him love in the kiss.
Today’s kiss is not like their innocent kisses they’ve shared before. There are more to it. Hyukjae can tell. The way Donghae is kissing him right now is different but still so lovely and gentle. He even willingly parted his mouth giving Donghae’s permission to kiss and taste him more.
It feels like forever for them both. Donghae went a little bit forceful when he heard a sweet low moans coming out of Hyukjae’s lips. His hand is now roaming on Hyukjae’s clothed chest; purposely teasing him. Unknowingly, Hyukjae arch his back to feel more of Donghae’s hand on him.
Donghae lets go of Hyukjae’s lip for a second and continue nipping and nibbling on the other’s upper and lower lips. His lips make a move to the south meeting with Hyukjae’s jawline. He licks sensually, testing on Hyukjae’s reaction. He grins when Hyukjae moans a little bit louder this time and immediately covers his mouth.
Hyukjae never felt like that before. No one has ever touched him like that. He can feel Donghae’s lips and tongue on his jawline and neck. Sucking gently at first. Unconsciously, Hyukjae tilt his head so Donghae have more room to work on his neck.
Suddenly, Hyukjae feel a short sharp pain on his neck but then was replace by warm tongue caressing the spot where Donghae has bitten. Hyukjae clutches on Donghae’s front shirt. Shivering slightly because what Donghae is doing to him.
Donghaea continue his way south, kissing Hyukjae’s clothed chest and make his way to Hyukjae’s nipple. One hand massaging the other and his lips is kissing and sucking on the twin. That make Hyukjae snap his eyes open.
He shivers more. From fear this time. Old flashbacks appear on the back of his head. He push Donghae’s body a little rougher and runs to the bathroom.
Donghae was left dumbfounded on the floor. He ignores all the pain he feel right now. Quickly he run to the bathroom only to find it is locked. He knocks gently. “Hyukkie, baby..Are you okay? Baby, I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I scare you like that. I didn’t mean to.” He said.
“I’m okay..I just need to… umm..freshen up.” Donghae waits for Hyukjae to open the door. He didn’t move from his spot. How can he be so stupid? He didn’t ask for Hyukjae’s opinion before do what he did.
He waits patiently until he hears a clicking sound. The door is unlocked. He holds himself back not to bang the door open before Hyukjae. When his lover is in the view, he clearly can see his lover was crying.
“Baby..” Donghae still afraid to make any movement.
“I’m okay.” Hyukjae said. Donghae sigh because right now Hyukjae refuse to look at him. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t do that. I’m sorry Hyukkie.” He carefully takes a step closer to Hyukjae.
“Please look at me.” when Hyukjae finally look at his, Donghae hug him tight. “I’m sorry. I’m not going to do that again. Not without your permission. I’m sorry. I’m a bad man.”
Hyukjae reply the hug. “No, I’m sorry. DOnghae-shi. I’m not… I just…” Hyukjae can’t figure out what he should say to Donghae right now.
“I know. It reminds you of your past, right? I’m sorry.”
The rest of the night, they spent on the bed; looking at each other. There is no more exchange of words but they do the talk with their eyes. Maybe Hyukjae is not ready now. When the time is right, he will prepare himself for Donghae to love him more.
