Today’s Testimony

7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

It’s funny how I always thought the above passage meant not calling out the Lords’ name at random.  You know how people say “ J…. Christ!”  ( I won’t even go there) to make a point or to show just how astonished they are.  Well I thought that the verse was admonishing us not to sporadically call out Jesus name.  But it’s a lot more than that.  I’ve found myself at times in my life justifying certain ways of thinking, saying to myself and to others around me-that this is what God intended.  In reality it was never what he intended and I knew better than to use God as a means to justify my ends.  Fact of the matter is;  I was looking for my own contentment and happiness everywhere else but with God.   Because being of the Flesh we tend to believe in things that are tangible to our senses.  Yet when we chase ghosts, we find nothing but emptiness.   We keep searching and searching for that fulfillment, not realizing that  it can only be found in God.   We are a stubborn and hard-headed people which is often why we miss out on so many of the blessings God has in store for us.   So to help myself sleep at night I used to say “this is what God intended” .   Based on what I’ve read in the bible, Life is a series of simple (yet complicated) events.   I say complicated because we tend to make things harder than they need to be.   Often times our situations call for blind faith which is seemingly a simple prerequisite but, Our warring halves make it complicated for us to comply.  The flesh makes it hard to believe in that which we cannot see.  So to sate our spiritual needs -which some of us are oblivious to the fact they’re spiritual - we search everywhere else.  Pills, Drink, Sex, the Internet and perhaps every other man-made addiction or stronghold in existence.   And it doesn’t matter how much you are abounding in any of the latter because at the end of the day you are still left with avoid.    Like I've said before in my other blog,  true contentment lies in trusting in God and taking the road less travelled.  So the simplicity of life’s experiences lies in 3 simple words  “TRUST IN GOD”.  Amazing!!! these three words are the answers to every problem or conundrum no matter how much they vary.

so my new Mantra is “Trust in God”.   Do that and you won’t ever feel the need to justify your own actions by throwing God’s name in the mix.  I mean picture it.  It’s like forging a letter from mom and presenting it to your teacher as an explanation for your absence.   Come on Craig you aint Got to Lie to Kick it!!!
