Save EOP!!!
Your “education” governor is proposing the COMPLETE elimination of the Educational Opportunity Program statewide and the grants it provides.
FACT: EOP at SFSU services about 2,400+ actively enrolled low-income and educationally disadvantaged SFSU students any given semester.
· The EOP advising unit provides 3,000+ sessions per year for academic, personal, and career advising.
· EOP tutoring carries out 1,500+ sessions per year.
With the elimination of EOP, 2400 students at SFSU
each semester will not have these services available to them.
FACT: EOP at SFSU admits and enrolls 650+ new low-income, educationally disadvantaged students.
· Each eligible EOP student receives an average EOP grant award of $745 each year.
With the elimination of EOP grants, these students may not have enough resources
available to them to pay for their tuition and buy their books and supplies.
FACT: EOP retention rates have been climbing over the past several years. For the last three years, a higher proportion of EOP first-time freshmen (compared with non-EOP) have continued their education beyond their first college year.
FACT: Each year, 350 to 400 EOP students graduate at SFSU.
The Educational Opportunity Program is a Social Stability Program. When students are educated, it increases their ability to obtain higher paying jobs, which increases the pool of taxpayers, keeping California’s economy healthy.
Investment in a student is an investment in the future - California’s future.
