So, at this little thing called Sports day at Shigakukan Gakuen there is a teacher's relay race against the students. The rumor was flying around is that I would be asked. Yesterday, it happened. I was asked by Shirahama sensei. I said yes, knowing that if I said no, it would never be forgotten. Today, was the 3 hour rehearsal for sports. The kids did trial races and stuff. I was minding my own business when Gundam sensei sidles up next to me and told the teacher's practice race would be today, too. V_V Let me note, there is no track like you have in America. You are running on sand, essentially. The wind was up today and the dust kept blowing in my eyes. I sat watching the kids most of the time. I was sitting next to the principal. He is a funny man. During this viewing of relay races and tug-of-war Sakurajima erupted. It was cool watching it happen. You get used to it. I've just never seen it erupt start to finish. You could see the wind blowing the ash cloud down the other side, away from Kagoshima. In the summer the wind direction changes. This will be a pain the rear this summer. Back to sports rehearsal, my time finally came. I was the first runner against 3 students. As I was standing at the line I got encouragement from the plethora of students. They seemed to think it was cool I was running. The little cap gun went off and away I went. I was told before all this that the teacher's lose on purpose so the students won't look bad. >_> I think the teacher's should beat them once. This performance over and I sat back down. It was hot and dusty. I took a shower as soon as I got home. I kind of regret saying I would go into work tomorrow. Now I want to sleep in. Yet, I really need to go in and prepare for the week after Golden week. Tomorrow is the best day to get things done.
An interesting thing happened today. I was in the teacher's lounge eating lunch when Ikeda sensei came in and said a student wanted to see. Curious, I followed her out. It turns out it was one of my S1 students come to apologize. It was given a low tone in broken English and Japanese. I had no freaking idea what he was sorry for. I said it was all okay. Later, I asked Ikeda sensei why he was sorry. He was apologizing for making crude comments and disrupting my class. I was surprised. I was glad he apologized. We shall see if he behavior improves. I am not betting money on it though. I plan on taking my camera to school on Friday. I have an ENKAI afterward at 7 p.m. on Sports day. This is a party school.
