I can't help but wonder if I'm really that bad of a person, that I need to be called into the manager's office so to speak because of "Tension." The reason there's tension? Apparently one of the kids at work (and I say kid loosely, he's an 18 year old High School Graduate) complained to the manager about me. My manager asked me what was going on so I told him. I'm tired of the laziness. All this guy does is sit on his ass playing with his phone all day. When he's not doing that he's dancing...well...he thinks he's dancing. To me he looks like Michael J. Fox stuck his finger in a light socket. Now, I wouldn't have a problem with that...if he didn't do it in front of the customers.
He also wears his baseball cap. The only people I know that wear their baseball caps at work are...BASEBALL PLAYERS....which he is not. He doesn't wash his hands when he pisses, and don't even get me started on his pants hanging down his ass.
Did I forget to mention that his mother works there too...? Yeah, I think we all see where this is going. Although apparently his mother has told him to "man up" a few times already.
My manager understands that I have a work ethic, and understands that there is less than a week left so his hands are tied...He asked me to put myself in his shoes. Fresh out of high school, and 18.
Now my question is...18 or not, is it really so wrong of me to expect people to behave in a professional manner at work? What I noticed today was that if this kid didn't have an employee badge, I would never even know that he worked there.
I also did put myself in his shoes so to speak and I realized something.
When I was his age...fresh out of high school and turning 18 I was learning a lot. I was learning how to march. I was learning how to perform CPR, and I was learning how to stop a sucking chest wound. On the flip side of that token I was learning something else too...I was learning how give someone that same sucking chest wound and kill them at 500 yards with an M-16A2 service rifle. I was learning how to take someone down in close quarters combat as well.
I was learning to do my job. I was also learning that if I did not do my job at best I would be thrown in jail. At worst I would be killed or be responsible for the deaths of my team mates or squad members.
So he asked me to put myself in his shoes...and I found out that I can't.
