Selected Sequences in iMax 3D...

Okay. So, the newest Harry Potter Teaser was released today. Nothing fancy. A voice over.. and the logo. What I did notice was that at the end of the trailer, it stated Selected Sequences in iMax 3D. Really? Can we not commit to the whole project in 3D?

I am one that totally gets lost in the movie. I get aggravated when someone beside me asks me the motivation for an action or something like that. So, when the iMax folks decide to partially convert to 3D, it gives me no choice. A little green set of glasses lines the bottom of the screen.. distraction... and then within 30 seconds, I get the double vision... huge distraction. And although, I am a fan of Foreigner, I am not a fan of mandatory double vision. And not only do you have that.. but the green glasses will pop back up again with the circle and the crimson slash to let us know this is a no 3D zone.

So, really, the image of iMax is impressive enough. If the project was shot in 70mm, then it is crisp and clear and all is beautiful. If it is a 35mm blow up, then it looks hella grainy and still looks pretty damn good. If you don't have time to 3D the whole film, I am cool with that, but I would rather see a whole 3D movie or nothing.. not selected sequences. Seriously.. when the tension builds up to the action sequence and your heart is pounding.. there is no bigger buzzkill, then to be reminded that you need your 3D spectacles.
