I've been watching lots of Japanese fanmade videos lately and also news reports about fujoshi in Japan and stuff. I always wondered how people in Japan felt about fujoshi (literally rotten girls; girls who are into BL manga and such; we use the term yaoi fangirls) and after watching a bunch of Youtube fan videos by fujoshi or about fujoshi and reading comments about them, it seems to be pretty divided between people who think they're gross (mostly stemming from homophobia) and people who are like, "Huh... that's weird. Oh well, whatever makes people happy." Also, one or two gay guys whining that fujoshi are spoiling their gay fun or something, as if this is the most difficult thing they have to deal with. Who knows, in Japan, maybe it is?
I don't really think that people have the same problems with them being loud, obnoxious, attention seekers like they do in American fandom. I don't think most yaoi fangirls in America are loud and obnoxious either, it's just that the quiet majority goes unnoticed because, well, it's quiet, while the loud abrasive minority are assumed to be representative of the entire group. Then again, a lot of fans in America don't like yaoi fangirls just because gay stuff makes them uncomfortable. I wouldn't mind if those people accidentally fell off a cliff, broke their legs and then died in agony from starvation and lack of water, but then I reserve all my hatred for the haters of this world (it's kind of like karma!)
One guy did complain about female cosplayers ruining everything by wearing the same outfits as his beloved 2D characters and thereby devaluing them because no real human can attain such perfection. I think he was my favorite.
I also found an amusing "I Can't Defeat Airman" parody about a guy trying to date a fujoshi and she won't go out with him and isn't interested in all the normal girly things he tries to woo her with like flowers and going to the movies and whatever. I was like, "Haha, that's what would happen if a guy tried to date me."
Luckily for everyone, since I do not weigh 100 pounds and am not below a size 4, I am too fat to get a date in America. I am amused that this has become the consequence of internet dating.
