[And here comes Caesar, a little groggy from just having woken up. He peeks around the corner, curious as to the source of the strange chant. Green eyes widen hugely as they spot the small boy.]
Oh runes.
[He scrubs his face wearily with his hands and emerges into the room after a moment, still staring.]
[Ran doesn't notice the person watching him right away. He's just a normal boy after all. He'll color the green dinosaur with such a conviction that the floor is about to turn green as well, brushing red bangs off his face constantly (the buggers keep coming back when he doesn't hook them behind an ear or something).
When he finally notices Caesar, he'll tilt his head back and gaze up at him curiously for a moment. Then break out a bright smile.]
I'm Ran, [ he returns with a wide smile.] I'm five years old. How old are you Caesar?
[But when Caesar crouches down and asks about the pictures, then the boy seems to light up, his back straightening, smile turning into a surprisingly serious expression.] This is a stegosaurus.
[Sweet runes, he's adorable. Caesar can't help but smile at Ran's seriousness, forgetting for a moment that he's never been good with children.]
I just turned nineteen not too long ago, Ran.
[It seems the boy is really into this stegosaurus ... thing. He wonders if there's anything like that in his world, perhaps on one of the wilder continents.]
That's quite a large-looking lizard. Do they live in the forests or on the plains? It looks dangerous.
[Ran doesn't care about Caesar's earlier merits with kids. He already likes him.]
You're old! [Yes, he knows how to count to nineteen, and far beyond. It's what daddy likes to do with him.] But not as old as daddy.
[The boy furrows his brows at Caesar and inches closer to him.] Uh huh! Don't you know dinosaurs? They were ex-- estin-- um, they don't live anymore. Miiiillions of years ago there were no people, just dinosaurs. They've found bones! And daddy promised we can go next summer to museum to see them!
[ooc: omg sososososo sorry for the late replies. D:]
Uh ... haha, I suppose I am. Funny, that. [Wow, for some reason, that brings a ... somewhat scandalized look to his face.] T-that's good, right?
I've ...never heard of them before, but I know all about finding bones of things that are gone. That sounds terribly exciting, though I wonder how people know what they're supposed to look like. Do you know, Ran?
[Little Ran observes that scandalized look with furrowed brows, then he smiles brightly, reaching to brush his hand over Caesar's.] Yeah, you're cool. Can we be friends? And then you can come with us to see the bones too! I'm not sure but I think they made some sort of guesses by the bones and then with computer and some fossil things and...
[It takes a bit of effort not to flinch away. This is just ... too weird. But there's a little boy down here who's offering friendship, and that's more than enough to drag him out of any other contemplation he might be having at the moment.]
Of course, Ran. I'd like that a lot.
That ... sounds like a lot of work. These people must be very smart, I think.
Yay! [And here's a hug too, Caesar, little arms wrapping around his neck and squeezing. But impatiently Ran leans back shortly, his eyes wide as saucers as he explains,]
Yeah! I think they're very smart. They've built these big models. First collected all the bones and then built them, and then painted the dinosaur on top of the bones.
Yeah. Historian? That's awesome. We could study together. [He's still happily unknowing of all the reasons that will stop him from reaching his goal.] I bet you've read a lot of cool books.
I would like that. [He looks thoughtful, but content.] You could teach me all about these dinosaurs, and I could tell you the known histories of the Sindar.
Oh runes.
[He scrubs his face wearily with his hands and emerges into the room after a moment, still staring.]

[He crouches down by little Ran, forcing his eyes away from the boy to look at the pictures he's coloring.]
What sort of creature are you drawing?

I think they'd have to be. And talented, too.
Is that what you want to do when you grow up?
[The question brings a flicker of sadness to his face, though he recovers quickly.]

Yeah, I wanna be a paleontogist! [No matter it's wrong spelled, but it's what he truly wants.] That's what they call the guys who research dinosaurs.

[He pats Ran on the head, smiling a little sadly.] I ... wish you the best of luck.
