My apartment is well known for having issues. Three times now I've had to stay in a motel so repairs to the pipes could be done. Last year they leveled the building and that caused doors not closing and cracks in the walls. The building was sold twice in the last couple of years. I had the neighbors from Hell that finally got evicted. They kept the area behind the building trashed. They had yard sales and stored junk there. Caused lots of bugs. It's been six months so that finally cleared up after a couple of sprayings.
On Friday night I was watching TV in bed about 7:30 pm. There was banging on my front door. As I went to answer the door, I saw flashing red lights outside. A female firefighter asked to come in and check for a gas leak. Seems there was a leak in the lines outside the building. Now the last year there have been several houses blown up in the Dallas area due to gas leaks. I didn't have a leak in my apartment, but was told I might have to evacuate. I waited for awhile and they came back asking where my car was parked. They were going to have to dig up part of the area where we park. So I left and bought some fast food since I didn't want to cook in the apartment. I came back a couple of hours later. They said I could go back into my apartment as they had fixed the leak. I just had to park my car in different area.
On Monday night I was watching TV in my bedroom when I heard a strange sound. It was my smoke alarm in the living room. It was only beeping once an hour so I wasn't too worried. It was the batteries needing to be changed. The smoke alarm was high up above my head so I couldn't reach it. The only step stool I had wouldn't let me reach it. I was off the next day so decided to buy a taller ladder so I could change the batteries. I close my bedroom door so the noise wouldn't keep me awake. I was drifting off and the bedroom door slowly opened itself. Took me a minute to realize the building had settled and the door opened because the HVAC had come on. It is never dull around here. I spoke to my upstairs neighbor a day later about the smoke alarm. He said his went off a couple of days before the gas leak and it was just the batteries. We had a good laugh about it. I would move, but this apartment is close to work and cheaper than any other I could rent. A one bedroom apartment around here is over $1,000 dollars a month. Mine is only $825. I can deal with strange things going on to save money.
