The Ultimate Guide to 2014's Science Fiction and Fantasy TV

Jan 08, 2014 07:09

I love almost anything that is Science Fiction or Fantasy.
Below are the new and returning shows for 2014.

Source

I have high hopes for the show in the photo below. It's Bitten which is based
on a line of books by Kelley Armstrong.  Bitten is in a series called Women of the Otherworld.
I've read the books and really enjoyed all of them. Laura Vandervoort plays Elena,
the lead character.  I do like her as the lead.  Some of the other characters seem
mis-casted to me.

Where: ABC
When: January 7th

Series Premiere: Intelligence: Not sure about this, maybe in DVD.

Ravenswood: Not interested in this one.

season two, and what will Jeremy be like after they dig him up?
So many exciting questions!
Where: Fox
When: January 13th

Series Premiere: Bitten: Major Squeel!!!

Spring Series Premieres

Season Premiere: In The Flesh: Never heard of this one.
What: Set after a terrible zombie infection ravages most of the UK this series
follows one of the soon-to-be-many rehabilitated "Rotters" as he attempts to
assimilate back into a very reluctant society. The infected are given makeup
and drugs to keep their identities hidden and to prevent them from going "rabid"
again. But many of the victims are haunted by their past, and their neighbors.
Season 2 will have more episodes than the short first season, and the show
continues to follow main character Kieren, as he attempts to get on with his second life.
Where: BBC America
When: Sometime this Spring

Season Premiere: Salem: Not sure yet.
What: An hour long drama set during the 17th Century Massachusetts witch trials.
The whole thing is penned by Brannon Braga (Star Trek: TNG and 24) and Adam
Simon.
Where: WGN
When: Sometime this Spring

Season Premiere: Penny Dreadful: Maybe.
What: Showtime's "psychosexual horror TV series," set in the past, and brought
to you by John Logan (Skyfall) and Sam Mendes. The first teaser trailer shows
actress Eva Green praying and possibly writhing about under the spell of some
demon. Feels a bit like American Horror Story, and we think that's a very good thing!
Where: Showtime
When: Sometime this Spring

Season Premiere: Believe: Not sure.
What: A collaboration between J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron - and
the Gravity director actually directed this pilot centered around a little girl
with phenomenal abilities and her protector. Granted, this show has had
its bout of troubles, losing two showrunners before the series has even
premiered, but the trailer still looks pretty decent. Fingers crossed for this
drama.
Where: NBC
When: Sometime this Spring

Summer Series Premieres

Series Premiere: The Strain: Going to watch it and give it a try.
What: Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's vampire mystery book comes
to life on the small screen. But don't expect sexy Dracula to cameo in a silken
cape - these monsters are vile and defecate all over the place when they feed.
The vampire hordes live in the sewers of New York, and its up to our heroes to
stomp out the infestation. A few viral videos have already started making the
rounds for this series, and it has us very excited.
Where: FX
When: Sometime this July

Season Premiere: Continuum: Couldn't get into this one.
What: The Canadian time traveling series hell bent on stopping a future
revolution in 2077 will screen in the states thanks to Syfy, this summer.
Where: Syfy
When: Sometime this Summer

Series Premiere: Extant: Hmmm...not sure.
What: Starring Halle Berry, this Steven Spielberg-produced series takes
place after Berry returns to her family from a mission in outer space...
and she has a mysterious pregnancy. CBS went straight to series with
this drama buying a 13 episodes, now all they have to do is deliver.
Where: CBS
When: Sometime this Summer

Series Premiere: Grand Central: Haven't heard much about it.
What: Inspired by Stephen King's short story, two Haven writers Sam
Ernst and Jim Dunn reportedly pitched a series about a widow who
receives a telephone call from her dead husband. The ghost not only
describes the after life but predicts (and helps prevent) a collection
of future tragedies. It was rumored that Grand Central was on the
"straight to series" pickup track. But we're not sure what happened to it now.
Where: ABC
When: Sometime this Summer... maybe?

Season Premiere: Falling Skies: Watched it and will stick with it.
What: Apparently at the end of the world the only things left will be
cockroaches and this series. You cannot kill this show.
Where: TNT
When: Sometime this Summer

Warehouse 13> Love this show.  Eddie is such a great guy. Love him.
What: How will our lovable crew recover from the huge bombshell
dropped last season? Say goodbye to our favorite gang because
these remaining 6 episodes will be the final chapter for Warehouse 13.
Syfy canned it.
Where: Syfy
When: Sometime this Summer

Fall Series Premieres

Here are just the shows we know for sure will be airing in the fall.

Premiere: Outlander: Read the first book and reminds me of lots of fan fiction
where Buffy goes back in time to meet William/Spike. Has moments of slash.
What: Ron D. Moore's return to television! Based off of the books by Diana
Gabaldon, this show takes place after a World War 2 nurse falls through
a time portal and lands in 18th Century Scotland. It's got romance, time
travel, bloodshed, kilts and a ravenous reader fan base. So RDM better
get this right or I know a mob of ladies who will be piiiiissed. Color us
intrigued, plus who doesn't love a man in plaid with an accent!
Where: Starz
When: Sometime in the Early Fall (maybe even late Spring if we're lucky)

Series Premiere: The Leftovers: Have no clue about this one, but Christopher Eccleston!
What: Based off the book by Election Tom Perrotta, the author has teamed
up with Damon Lindelof to bring this series to life. Set after the great rapture
the series will focus on the Earth's leftovers, those who didn't get into heaven.
And we get to see what happens when you realize there is a higher power,
and you're screwed. The cast is fantastic and includes Christopher Eccleston,
Liv Tyler, and Justin Theroux. HBO ordered up a 10-episode series, but has
remained mum on the premiere date.
Where: HBO
When: No idea - fingers crossed for this fall. But that may just be wishful thinking.

Series Premiere: Star Wars Rebels: Nope, mostly because Disney.
What: Set in between Episode III and Episode IV, this will be Disney's first official
piece of Star Wars. The CG animated series certainly is pretty, but we're much more
nervous about the oncoming live action films to even concentrate on new Jedi characters.
However, if this will fill the hole in our hearts left by the cancelation of Clone Wars, so be it.
Where: Disney Channel and Disney XD
When: Sometime this Fall

Season Premiere: Doctor Who: Can it be now?
What: Peter Capaldi will get his time on the deck of the TARDIS with companion
Jenna Coleman this Fall. But will fans take to this new Doctor like they took to
Matt Smith? Only timey wimey antic will tell.
Where: BBC
When: Probably late August

Series Premiere: The Flash: Going to watch.
What: Originally slated as a backdoor pilot that would branch out of the very
popular Arrow series, The CW decided to give Barry Allen his very own
standalone pilot due to the massive popularity the character received
after he was introduced. Which means more time with actor Grant Gustin,
but it will be a bit longer until we see him in the big red suit.
Where: The CW
When: Sometime this Fall

Series Premiere: The Last Ship: Interesting.
What: Michael Bay is producing, Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3, Surrogates)
is directing, and the premise is bat shit insane. Based on the novel by William
Brinkley, the series will follow the U.S. Navy vessel on Earth that survives a
global catastrophe. The crew floats all over the Earth looking for sanctuary
and other survivors. But of course, everything goes to hell on said ship.
Where: TNT
When: Sometime this Fall

Series Premiere: Crossbones:????
What: John Malkovich is Blackbeard - the end.
Where: NBC
When: Sometime this fall.

Series Premiere: Gotham: Not sure about it.
What: A Batman prequel that looks at the early career of James Gordon,
Gotham City's best cop, as he deals with the madness of Gotham.
And a ten-year-old Bruce Wayne also appears!
Where: FOX
When: Sometime this fall

So what will my flist watch?  Lots of different styles so there should be
something for most everyone.
