I saw this question on a blog site. It got me to thinking.
I grew up with a mother who was terrified of everything.
We had three small windows in our front door. She was
afraid someone would peek in them to watch us. She
made small curtains to cover them up. Every little noise
had her pulling those curtains aside so she could peek
out to see what it was.
I guess I was a teen when I decided I wasn't going to live
with fear like that. Fear and worry hold you back. Worrying
about what might happen doesn't stop it if it does. So you
just have to decide to be aware, but not allow anyone to
make you a victim.
When my husband was away on field duty, I kept a shotgun
under my bed. I also had a dog inside the house. Would I
have shot someone? Yes, I would have if I had to do it.
Now I live with my son who has guns. He keeps a handgun
on his night stand. He also has foot long Maglite flashlight.
Those things are good to blind somebody in a dark room
and make a good club since they use four c cell batteries.
We have two basenjis who are love bugs. They don't bark, but
our male would freak out if someone tried to break in. He would
be scared and throw himself at my bedroom door for me to protect
him. That would wake me up. We always keep our doors and
windows locked. We never leave our garage door open unless
we are in the garage. Our privacy fence has a heavy lock on it.
So my question is, do you have a plan if someone breaks into
your house/apt?
