Writer's Block from yesterday...

Okay, I didn't answer this question, but it did prompt me to remember something.
I might give children books to read or read to them, but I would fit the book to the child.
Under the cut is the memory this question sparked.

Which books will you certainly read to your children, nieces, nephews or godchildren?

To those who don't know, I was married at nineteen to a man who had two small children.
Their birthmother wasn't the mothering type.  She used her kids to get things.  The world
revolved around her.

When the youngest, Robert, chose to live with his dad and me when he was ten.  I am very
close to Robert.  He may not be my child by blood, but he is my child from my soul.  He asked
me a question about sex.  I can't remember what it was now, but I remember this.  I asked him
if his mother ever talked to him about sex.  He said no.  She gave the boys a very thick book about
sex.  Told them to read it.  If they had any questions about what they read to go back to the book to
figure out the answer.

So it's not enough to give the kids in your life books. You need to be willing to talk to them about life
as well.  If you don't then other people in their lives will help them form their opinions.  Kids have so many
influences in their young lives.  Teachers, coaches, and other kids give them information.  You need to
talk to kids yourself to know what is going on in their lives and figure out what is important to them and you.
