I feel bad that my wish that you enjoy your Cubby day was late, even though I don't do that stuff. I hadn't really sat down at the computer in days, and hadn't really been aware of what the day's date had been. Then I sat down for a minute...I'm not sure how the date worked it's way into my mind, and I thought "DUBYA! I missed Cubby day!" ...I'm ashamed that I missed Amy's as well. She doesn't get on very much any more, so I'm hoping she won't realize it. I'm a bit too sheepish to mention it, over a week late.

...I'm sorry it's been disappointing. I don't know why it happens, but it happens (I'm Lauren's 'personal assistant' these days, and it's actually my job to remind her when her friends' birthdays are coming up, etc.). It's sad but two years ago, the first time I really spent much time with most of her friends, we took Ericka to "Howl at the Moon" (it's a bar), on her 24th. It's good to bring me since I don't drink, and the evening's goal was to get Ericka fit-shaced. ;) It was a pretty awesome time, in general. It was early December, and the waitresses were already dressing in cute, short-skirted Elf costumes. We learned that they have some kind of Jello shot that they serve by straddling your lap, injecting it into your mouth, via needle-less syringe, spraying in whipped cream, and then kissing you on the cheek. ...It was purchased several times, for various members of our party that night. They even got the kilted door-man to come in and serve one to Michelly, who has a thing for guys in kilts, and she eventually got drunk enough to give him her number.

It was an awesome party; Ericka was falling down drunk at the end of the night. She loudly proclaimed Shannon's boyfriend (pre-marriage on the 04-05 of the next year) to be an a-hole (he was present at the time, if I recall correctly), and on the drive home was attempting to direct me to take freeways in directions that they don't go. :) ...Sounds like a good time, huh?

Shannon's birthday is about two weeks later. She really wanted to go out dancing at A Clockwork Orange. That was the plan, as far as I remember. I think everyone had been all set to go. At the last minute, people start calling up and canceling. Lauren got a call a few hours before we were supposed to meet, from a crying girl letting her know that the party was off, and she just wasn't getting a birthday that year. We went over and took her out with her boyfriend, anyway. We went to a couple of different places... neither really great in my opinion. She danced with her bf and with Lauren. I think. Mostly she danced with Lauren, if she danced. We didn't make it to 'Clockwork, though. I think he suggested something else, or had said it was too late to go down there, then, because we ended up going out later than originally planned. It was still something of a disappointment, I'm sure. Everyone came to her parents' place the next weekend to have a party for her, and I'm sure she felt better then, but Lauren was really pissed that night at everyone for flaking at the last minute like that.

So, yeah. It sucks, but it happens. Even if you've got someone reminding people for you that it's your birthday, you can still get screwed over. Unless you plan it yourself, you won't get what you want. Even then, you might not. If it means that much to you though, tell them a little in advance that you want to celebrate this year, and tell them where they'll be taking you, and what kind of cake they're to get. ...It's your party, why not? Maybe that'll give them the hint to get some cool presents, too. ;)
