Busy busy busy!
Taking time for an update...
This is one of the busiest weeks of my year, with the 2 kids' birthdays and anniversary, plus this w/e is the reenactment at Minooka, so I spent tonight helping the guys make blank rounds. Scott's b-day was last Friday - he's 26 now. We haven't gone out for his b-day yet because he's been busy with the FD Open house. He wants to go to the casino - that oughta be interesting, since we've never been to one. Bek's b-day was this past Tuesday - she's 22 now. I really miss her. In lieu of being with her, we e-mailed a card, called, and left her gift in the capable hands of her roomies. I never know what to get the kids now that they're older and don't let me in to their likes, dislikes, and worlds too much anymore, so trying to surprise them is very difficult. I usually end up finding either cutesy stuff or "memory" stuff, which they probably both think is really lame.....and it probably is.
We did come across a woodcarver at the Will Cty Fair, who made personalized keychains and desk names. We had him make Bek a keychain of her name, since no one spells it the special way we always have. When we talked to her on her b-day, she said she liked everything, but she didn't mention the keychain, so we asked. She said something along the lines of, "Why does it say "Bekka"? You know I hate being called Bekka!" We both told her it was Bekky, not Bekka - and we made sure it was correct before we left the booth. I really hope she sees it IS a Y - I know how much she hates the other name. I know she wanted her GA season, but we were being sneaky with it - gotta keep things changed up from time to time, yanno? She wanted some extra $, so I put an additional $50 in the deposit so she could go get her GA after all. Maybe next year will be easier if we're moved closer - I won't have to guess at what she's into or get something lame or, worse yet, get something she already has. I try, but I usually end up a major failure. No wonder they hate me. As for Scott, he's a little easier in that we see him all the time, but yet still hard because he doesn't come out and ask - he hints around. He said he'd like a helmet camera, so I said we could get him that if he likes, then dad said he could use a cot, so I said we could get that if he'd rather - or a digital camera...but the digital camera he wants is out of my current price range. I still don't know what he wants from us. Unfortunately he'll have to wait till early November because my bank account is really really low and I have to survive for at least the next 2 weeks on what's left in there.
So, I still feel distanced and alone, no matter how hard I try, I come up short. It sucks.
