Louisiana and Family

Growing up with relatives in Louisiana, I was spoiled rotten when it comes to food at family gatherings. This weekend was no exception.

My cousin, Sissy, from New Orleans, organized a family gathering around our Aunt Delma. My Mother, Hazel, was once regarded as the head of the family, but Delma is the heart. She is getting on, as they say, and a recent bout with cancer has cost her, but her spirit remains as bright as ever. Here are the cousins that were present. The "out-laws," the spouses were the picture takers.

Of course there was food to die for...especially Sissy's pork roast!  And once you have had her roasted oysters you are done for!

Friday night I had orders from Lynn that we had to find some good Cajun food. I sought advice from the motel desk clerk and she immediately recommended this palace to the Oyster known as Chookie's. We have considered changing our plans and staying over for the Monday $5/doz for oysters on the half shell...you can read about Lynn's experience here.

Lynn took food pictures last night so I'm hoping she will post them soon. I *really* want to duplicate the Oyster Scampi. If you think of this dish as a Vietnamese Pho, you will come closer to what it is like, except made with a substantial portion of the oyster and garlic crop. Incredible! I dreamed about it last night.

'Course all of this food talk is just to torture Cousin Allen, weekendrancher , who is languishing in Equatorial Guinea in a Exxon/Mobile compound with very bad food. You would think a Texas based company would know better....after all Texas borders on Louisiana!
